Volunteer Abroad in Kenya: Volunteering Opportunities Due to a dramatic improvement in the political situation in Kenya that has brought calm and peace to the country, we are happy to announce the resumption of our volunteer programs. Including new projects in Nairobi and with the Masai people. Volunteer Abroad in Kenya: lies along the equator on the eastern coast of Africa. Kenya is bordered by Somalia and the Indian Ocean to the east, Ethiopia to the north, Sudan to the northwest, Uganda to the west and Tanzania to the south. The country has incredible topographical diversity, including mountains with snow-capped peaks, the Rift Valley with its scarps and volcanoes, flat desert landscapes and coral reefs and islets on the Indian Ocean coast. When most people think of Kenya, they think of world famous wilderness reserves and safari vacations but there is so much more. Kenya is home to over 50 different ethnic tribes, all with their own languages, cultures and customs. Regarded by many as the 'jewel of East Africa', Kenya also has some of Africa s best beaches, scenic countryside and a sophisticated tourist infrastructure. 10% of the land is designated as national parks and reserves and the wildlife sightings are one of a kind. Like so many countries in Africa, Kenya has been hit very hard by the Aids epidemic, especially in the rural areas. Million of people are infected with the disease and children are the worst affected. Many children are left orphaned, or raised by overburdened family members, or worse, end up living in the slums of Nairobi. One dramatic impact of AIDS deaths is the decline in life expectancy. The Central Bureau of Statistics estimates that because of the large number of AIDS deaths, the actual life expectancy is 46 years old! Parentless children and aging grandparents now compose many communities, unbalancing the socio-economic structure of the region which promtes continued poverty in many areas.We have volunteer programs available in Mombasa, and in Makuyu village about 30 miles north of Nairobi. In this district, 98% of its population lives in rural areas, and subsistence agriculture is the major activity.

One of the most diverse countries in Africa, Cameroon is often referred to as "Africa in miniature . Nevertheless, large numbers of Cameroonians live in poverty as subsistence farmers. The unemployment rate is high and those who are employed perform mostly agricultural tasks. The HIV/AID crises have hit hard especially the children, many of whom lack proper healthcare. Cameroon has one of the highest school attendance rates in Africa. Although attendance rates are high, there is a shortage of teacher leaving schools chronically understaffed.Cameroon is having two seasons that is the rainy and dry season; the rainy season runs from March to September while the dry season runs from October to February. The major spoken languages are still English and French but a multitude of more than 200 ethnic languages are also in circulation, with various tribes populating the country. Our programs are located in Buea and the surrounding rural towns where English is predominately spoken. The nearest airport from our head office is Douala International, about an hour drive from Buea. All participants should book their flights to Douala Airport.The volunteer program goal is to give international support to local organizations helping needy children and young people throughout south west Cameroon. Our program focus is on community development, health, agriculture, housing, feeding and educating these needy orphans and street children. Settlement of Costa Rica began in 1522. For nearly three centuries, Spain administered the region as part of the Captaincy General of Guatemala under a military governor. The Spanish optimistically called the country "Rich Coast." Finding little gold or other valuable minerals in Costa Rica, however, the Spanish turned to agriculture. Mention Costa Rica and people think paradise. The country's Disney-like cast of creatures ranging from howler monkeys to toucans is prolific and relatively easy to spot. The waves are prime; the beauty is staggering and the sluggish pace seductive.Costa Rica, despite being such a tiny nation, draws well over a million visitors every year - and you can see why. The incredibly varied topography means you can cruise a cloud forest one day, climb a volcano the next, and finish passed out on a hot sandy beach.Costa Rica is a tropical country and experiences only two seasons: wet and dry. The dry season is generally between late December and April; the wet season lasts the rest of the year. The highlands are cold: San Jos and the Central Valley get an 'eternal spring' with lows averaging 15 C (60 F) and highs averaging 26 C (79 F). Volunteers work at a local children's home which doubles as an orphanage and day care. The children range in age from infancy to 12yrs old, some with mild handicaps. Teaching English, math, as well as manual labor (sweeping, painting, and gardening) may be involved.
