IRELAND'S BIGGEST, MOST BIZARRE MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE CASE EVER !. In the early hours of Monday, the 14th of October 1996, the body of cattle dealer Richie Barron is found dead on a roadway outside the market town of Raphoe, County Donegal. Irish police arrest Frank McBrearty Jnr and his first cousin, Mark McConnell, for murder. From the first, the police treatment of the suspects is rife with harassment and abuse. Shocked and angered by what is happening to them, the McBrearty family, led by patriarch Frank McBrearty Snr, gather all their resources to fight the police case. The Police set up a smear campaign to discredit the McBrearty's defense, but pressure from the media and a handful of opposition politicians proves too strong. The Morris Tribunal is set up to uncover the truth behind the Barron murder investigation and widespread Police Corruption in Donegal. DN Festival: Doc/Fest 2007

DN Festival: Doc/Fest 2007

One hundred and seventy six miles north of Soho, there s a mystical place called Sheffield, where powerful people travel from afar on an annual basis to share their documentary knowledge, and parade the results of their efforts. And for every mile delegates have to travel, there is a film or session to see - from Kim Longinotto s Hold Me Tight, Let Me Go, to sessions on how to be a TV whore. This modern day pilgrimage, now in its 14th year, yet again failed to disappoint with what was to be the biggest congregation yet. Orchestrated by festival director Heather Croall, factual big wigs and newbies alike shared thoughts on the documentary world, with particular focus on the post Queengate TV climate. Now my fourth consecutive Sheffield Doc/Fest visit, I had the pleasure of meeting a few of the delegates, and attending some of the legendary parties along the way.
