Motion Experiment 3 - Fantasy Particle Machine
from YouTube :: Tag // newyork May 11, 2008
Lots more to read below! Strexx Motion Lab wants to correct a terrible problem with modern design and construction. The problem with most construction today is the lack of modulation with the particles used in the construction. Since construction applies to anything, we can see just how large the the applicable context for Strexx Motion Lab theories is. Imagine each shape having the same origin shape — each new shape is a modulation of one single shape. A circle is a triangle that has modulated and a square is a hexagon, that has undergone modulation. In this video, we have at first a collection of random shapes, but these shapes have experienced severe amounts of modulation. Their starting shape? A car, more specifically, components of a Lamborghini LP640. At this point it is easy not to see how the transformation was made, but everything that you're seeing is from different design components of a Lamborghini LP640. It does seem pointless to have that as a source since you cannot tell that of all things a Lamborghini was the source. But a Lamborghini or any car is just a collection of shapes — which can all be modulated. Even though the physical qualities that make a Lamborghini recognizable are gone, it still makes a wonderful candidate, and actually has qualities that can be seen in the video — post modulation. The bright colors are similar to Verde Ithica, Celeste Cepheus, Giallo Orion, Arancio Atlas, and Bianco Isis that are seen regularly on Lamborghini vehicles, and of course the motion in the video can be compared to any car whether it's a Koenigsegg or Pagani, or a Kia or Prius. Every item exists with other items. This of course causes interaction between those items and particles. We do not directly control the movement of the particles, as that does not produce any interesting results. Instead, Strexx Motion Lab provides different situations, environments, and parameters for the particles and components in the video to interact with. Controlling the environment is the best way to produce dynamic results that are unpredictable and the most spectacular. The resulting inevitable interactions can have neutral reactions, positive and constructive reactions , or negative and destructive reactions. The reactions all produce visual and sonic responses, but the different types of response will tell the future of the video components and particles. It is very important to realize that these are all growing structures that have many evolutions, and that these videos are only a portion of the life of these structures. The formations that are possible with any shape through modulation architecture are incredible. These formations come together to form vastly complex systems of modulation architecture that have similarities in design to the Mandelbrot fractal set. Fractal Architecture and molecule modulation — through both visual and sonic and sonic ranges is the largest portion of the Strexx Motion Lab. Think of these structures as buildings, as structures that can exist in a cityscape. Imagine a city filled completely with moving fractal structures as buildings, with the plethora in range that fractal structures can have, every city and every building inside of a city can be replaced with a fractal system. The cities don't have to be replaced, instead there could be alternate fractal versions of every city: Fractal London, Fractal Paris, Fractal Rome, Fractal New York, Fractal Chicago, Fractal Los Angeles, Fractal Tokyo, Fractal Monaco, Fractal Istanbul, Fractal Budapest, Fractal Dubrovnik, or Fractal Valletta. Architecture needs to incorporate more animation theory into structure design. The limits and possibilities that animators experience are almost not worth mention, compared to the limits that architects face. Unfortunately, those limits have translated into structural åådesign and engineering. The music in the video also incorporates the use of alternative mechanical structure design, except this time in a sonic manner. The music was constructed with the used of items that were purchased from Lowe's (home improvement store), and found around my house (I guess that makes this true house music). This again shows the strength that is seen when materials are used for alternative purposes that have no relationship with their intended purpose. Alternative construction and design is needed in every field and every area, it is the best form of breakthrough. That is the goal of the Strexx Motion Lab Project, to promote alternative and innovative uses in every medium of any object to form brilliant and vast structures. Rural Colombians fear Farc incursions - 09 Apr 08
from YouTube :: Videos by AlJazeeraEnglish April 09, 2008
Colombia's war against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc), left-wing anti-government rebels, is fought on many fronts, usually in rural areas where civilians are constantly caught in the crossfire. Nearly three million people are internally displaced in Colombia, the second largest humanitarian crisis in the world after Sudan. In the jungle region of Guaviare, the escalation of military operations have caused at least 15,000 people to leave their homes this year. Mariana Sanchez reports. Do Try This At Home! Episode 8 - A Real Gas/Bloopers
from Metacafe - Today's Videos by Metacafe February 01, 2008
I know you've all been waiting anxiously. So, here it is... Episode 8, A Real Gas ! my Uncle G plays with chemicals and fire (what a surprise), for a really cool demonstration. An experiment you'll want to try, and probably can try immediately, as all materials are likely in your house already. Exothermic reaction and gas displacement at its best! Also, make sure you watch past the credits for the bloopers. Thanks Uncle G much love

Slit-scan video test
from Vimeo / Videos stevegarfield likes December 16, 2007
Slit-scan video test from Casey Pugh on Vimeo. About a year ago I saw a music video using this very cool effect. I've always wanted to play with it and was reminded to do so after watching adam deeves' video on time displacement ( http://www.vimeo.com/409951 ). Instead of using After Effects, I decided to see if it was possible to recreate the slit-scan video effect in Flash using my web cam. The video above is the end result and works even better than I hoped. I'm going to be putting this online soon so everyone who has a web cam can play with it. Update: I posted it online http://caseypugh.com/slitscan Cast: Casey Pugh

Fenced Out Trailer
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) December 13, 2007
Tape# 304 Fenced Out documents the fight for the Christopher St. pier, a long-established hangout and safe haven for New York City s youth of color and lower-income, homeless, lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender, questioning and two-spirited youth. In the summer of 2000, development for a state park began fencing out the kids, with support from residents of nearby waterfront properties. You are lowering the property value, notes one police officer bluntly. The video examines the clash between the groups that claim ownership of the pier, from the perspective of the youths who feel it is the only place where they belong. The documentary includes interviews with pierets about how important the pier is in their lives, and with LGBTQ activists about the history of the piers and their connection to the gay liberation movement of the 60 s. It explores how the struggle to save the pier connects to a larger historical and social movement, and develops a plan of action to save them. Produced by Paper Tiger Television in collaboration with New Neutral Zone and FIERCE.

New Ocean Waves
from YouTube :: Tag // ComputerGraphics August 28, 2007
I made this video more recently than my other ocean video. This one is the result of Cog's New Ocean Tutorial (www.cogfilms.com). It looks much better than the last one, and similarly, it is merely a plane with several textures mapped to it. Rolling Ocean Waves in Blender 3D
from YouTube :: Tag // ComputerGraphics August 26, 2007
I made this a while back based off of Cog's great tutorial (http://www.cogfilms.com). It's nothing more than a plane with a wave modifier and several animated textures applied to it. It's been a while since I made this one, and since then, Cog has come out with a much better tutorial for ocean waves, for which, I also have a video.
