 GCDC'08: more demos optimized for Intel platform

In our first Intel demo blog post we talked about Sacred 2 by Ascaron. In the second part of this demo story we have a look at highly optimized games for Intel platform.Steve Hughes demonstrated some technical stuff that was running quite convincingly on a Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core. The demo used a thread pool, which accessed different number of cores as well as using them full steam. This is a perfect example for how optimized code scales with the power of your machine by adopting the numbers of features like rain intensity.Ian Crook tried to convince us of his driving capabilities which weren t really that impressive. Fortunately the game demo was. We learned that Race Driver: GRID from Codemasters is fully optimized for Intel based multi-core platforms scaling completely with the number of available processors. In order to achieve this Codemasters and Intel worked together using VTunes and other Intel Tools. This demo runs on a Core 2 Extreme with four cores.

hey people... here's a little video from the studio, recording the vocals for a demo of 'suffer for her sins.' the camera is in the control room, filming through the glass, and i'm in a different room, singing to the track on headphones. the audio you hear is what the engineer heard in the control room as he was recording me. it is not at all mixed or even close to being finished at this stage - wait til i let you hear the final track!! some day i'll explain the whole process. but for now i won't bore you! :) check out more footage from the studio on my youtube page very soon! i'll be posting a lot in the coming days.....so much is happening and i want to share it all with you - the ups and downs and in between. xox terra Author: terranaomi Keywords: terra naomi suffer for her sins studio demos recording say it's possible up here jenny Added: May 30, 2008

While at JavaOne this year, I had the chance to talk with Sun's Vijay Sarathy about VirtualBox, the open source virtualization engine Sun recently acquired. We talked about the general features in version 1.6, Sun's plans for VirtualBox, and then went through a short demo of using VirtualBox to run Windows Vista and OpenSolaris on OS X.
