Degustation d'Arras

Degustation d'Arras

from C'est le Toon on June 05, 2009
Duration: 143
The cinematic stylings of French New Wave brought a fresh look to cinema with improvised dialogue, rapid changes of scene, and shots that go beyond the common 360 axis. The camera was used not to mesmerize the audience with elaborate narrative and illusory images, but to play with and break past the common expectations of cinema. The techniques used to shock the audience out of submission and awe were so bold and direct that Jean-Luc Godard has been accused of having contempt for his audience. His stylistic approach can be seen as a desperate struggle against the mainstream cinema of the time, or a degrading attack on the viewer's naivete. Either way, the challenging awareness represented by this movement remains in cinema today. Effects that now seem either trite or commonplace, such as a character stepping out of her role in order to address the audience directly, were radically innovative at the time.

[F] Dom. Sang des Cailloux, Vacqueyras interview

[F] Dom. Sang des Cailloux, Vacqueyras interview

from brianhunttv on April 10, 2009
Duration: 332
http://www.bkwine.com/wine_tours/wine_tours.htm --- We meet with the winemaker Serge Ferigoule at Domaine du Sang des Cailloux. It is located in Vacqueyras, in the southern Rhone Valley in France, and produces mainly red and some white wine. It covers 17 hectares of vineyard on the garrigue plateau between Vacqueyras and Courthezon with soils that are mainly clay and limestone with an addition of the galets roules, big stones, typical for the region (famous above all in Chateauneuf-du-Pape). The vines are on average quite old, 50-60 yrs Serge Ferigoule make essentially two different red wines: The cuvee classique, named after his daughters Doucinelle (Doucinelio), Florette, Azalais, depending on the year; and an old vine cuvee (vieille vignes) Cuvee Lopy. The name of the winery, Sang des Cailloux, literally means the blood of the stones but it is not really a reflection of the hardship of being a winegrower, but rather that the colour of the soil at one period of time in spring is of a particular shade. They work essentially in organic farming, albeit not yet with any eco-label. La culture est essentiellement biologique, mais sans revendiquer un label specifique. http://www.sangdescailloux.com/ Music by: Johnne Tuzza, Maple Leaf Rag, PodSafeMusic.com By BKWine, http://www.bkwine.com See all our wine videos on our BKWine TV channel: http://www.youtube.com/bkwine

We re visiting just when the harvest is in ongoing, so there s plenty of work (and noise) in the cellar. They have just brought in all the grapes from the vineyards. This is the vintage of 2007 which was very successful in Chateauneuf since it was not subject to the damaging rain that they had in other regions of France. The Dom. du Grand Tinel is a family property since several generations. They also have a winery called Clos Saint Paul with 14 hectares. They have some 75 ha at Grand Tinel, some 60 ha in Chateauneuf and the rest in Cotes du Rhone. The vineyards are planted primarily with grenache, syrah, counoise and muscardin (very unusual) and some cinsault. Olivier is making his first vintage in Chateauneuf and has previously worked in Mendoza in Argentina. The language is French [F] [F] Entretien avec le oenologue Olivier au Domaine du Grand Tinel. It's a family vineyard since 40 years back. Marie works with the Vinification and Francois works with the vineyards. It is located in Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhone Valley (France). They make quite modern grenache, with good extraction and lots of fruit. They debud and sometimes do green harvest in the vineyards. They sometimes go over the vineyards twice to select the grapes when they are at top maturity. They also select the bunches and the grapes both in the vineyards and on a sorting table when they arrive inn the vineyards. They do use a little barrel aging but not too much. They have quite a big export to the United States. Chateauneuf has become quite popular in the USA, not least because Robert Parker (a famous wine guru) have praised it and given it high points. We re in the vineyards in winter before the vines have been pruned. This year they have had a lot of rain The vineyard is in organic farming (culture biologique). It covers 24 ha in AOC Cote de Provence, primarily used for making red wines, in contrast to what is current trends and what many other winemakers do (focusing on ros wines). Five grape varieties are used which makes for a more complex wine. He makes four different cuvees: Tradition : genache, cabernet sauvignon, carignan, and syrah. Farnoux: syrah and grenache Saint Paul: aged in big foudres and grenache cabernet syrah Allegria: almost pure syrah Paul Weindel makes wines with lots of fruit and is not too fond of barrel aging. The vineyards are in biodynamic framing since 2000. Paul says that biodynamic farming makes for much more life in the vineyards and more character and minerality. The vineyard and winery of Ch Lestage is located in Listrac in Medoc, Bordeaux. The chateau is one of those that have been classified as Cru Bourgeois. She explains first where Listrac is situated. Not far from Moulis that is between Saint Julien and Margaux. It covers only 670 hectares and is one of the highest (in altitude) of the Medoc appellations with its 43 (!) meters. She tastes the 2005 of Chateau Lestage a great and exceptional vintage in Bordeaux. And she also comments specifically on the wines from the new 2007 vintage. The first grapes to be harvested are the merlots and the last are the cabernets. Part of the harvest is manual and part is made by harvesting machine. They use quite long macerations. As virtually all modern vineries they use temperature controlled fermentation tanks. Entretien avec le vigneron (vigneronne) Caroline Chanfreau-Philippon, proprietaire du domaine Cheteau Lestage.
