Season summary: After Nicole Sullivan left at the end of season six, Debra Wilson was the last remaining member of the original cast. Season six featured players Andrew Daly and Stephnie Weir were promoted to repertory players. Also joining the cast were Frank Caliendo, Kathryn Fiore, Jill Michelle Meleán and Bobby Lee (the first Asian-American player on MADtv). Bobby Lee frequently performed an impersonation of Connie Chung in drag. Andrew Daly appeared as Politically Incorrect host Bill Maher, interviewing cast members performing celebrity impersonations. Kathryn Fiore played neurotic teen Kate Williams and sorority sister Taylor Rosenblatt, and impersonated Barbara Pierce Bush. Jill Michelle Meleán performed a dead-on impersonation of Drew Barrymore. Real Mother****ing Talk, a parody of political talk-shows such as Hardball with Chris Matthews and Politically Incorrect, debuted. The skit was hosted by Dollar Bill Montgomery (Aries Spears), who interviewed guests such as rappers (Method Man, Redman) and comedians (Earthquake, Corey Holcumb). Guest Michelle Trachtenberg appeared in a parody of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Alex Borstein's Ms. Swan. Trachtenberg, who actually appears in "Buffy", was nominated for a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Comedy Series for her MADtv stint. Other guests included Todd Bridges, Vivica A. Fox, Frankie Muniz, *NSYNC members Lance Bass and Joey Fatone, wrestlers Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Man Show hosts Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel, and several hip-hop artists (including DMX, Ja Rule, Insane Clown Posse, Master P., Method Man, Redman, and the RZA). Will Sasso and Alex Borstein left at the end of season seven. Opening montage: The MADtv logo appears on the screen and the theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins. A voice announces "It's MADtv! Starring...," and then alphabetically introduces each repertory cast member, followed by the featured cast. MADtv Season 3: The third season of MADtv aired from September 20, 1997, to May 16, 1998, with 25 episodes. Season summary: At the start of season three, one third of the original cast (Bryan Callen, Orlando Jones and Artie Lange) was replaced by newcomers Alex Borstein, Chris Hogan, Pat Kilbane, Lisa Kushell, Will Sasso, and Aries Spears. This was the last season to feature original cast members David Herman and Mary Scheer. Herman left to pursue a movie career, while Scheer left show business to become a full-time mother. This was the last season Fax Bahr and Adam Small would produce MADtv with Quincy Jones and David Salzman, although Barr and Small are still credited as "executive consultants". They went on to create Blue Collar TV, a similar sketch show that ran from 2004 to 2006. This was the last season Alfred E. Neuman and the bomb sequence was seen in the opening credits. However, Neuman's image still appeared on the MADtv stage in the fourth season. This was also the last season of Spy vs. Spy and Don Martin cartoon shorts, although Spy vs. Spy would be seen as part of the MADtv rerun segments in the fourth season. This was the first season in which MADtv showed "classics", i.e. reruns of episodes from previous seasons. Opening montage: The title sequence begins with several fingers pointing at a bomb. Then the bomb explodes and a picture of Alfred E. Neuman and a brain appears on a purple screen followed by the MADtv logo. The theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins. Cast members are introduced alphabetically with their names appearing in caption over black-and-white still photos of them. MADtv Season 6: The sixth season of MADtv aired from October 7, 2000, to June 23, 2001, with 30 episodes. Season summary: MADtv began its sixth season with several cast changes. Pat Kilbane and Phil LaMarr left the show at the end of the fifth season. Returning repertory players Alex Borstein, Mo Collins, Michael McDonald, Will Sasso, Aries Spears, Nicole Sullivan, and Debra Wilson were joined by Nelson Ascencio (a featured player from last season) and newcomer Christian Duguay. Andrew Daly, Dannah Feinglass, Jeff Richards, and Stephnie Weir were added as featured players. Cast members reprised many of their well-known characters and schticks. Alex Borstein and Will Sasso interviewed celebrities at red-carpet events, while Sasso performed celebrity impersonations of Robert De Niro and Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. Mo Collins appeared as Doreen Larkin, Trina Moss, Lorraine Swanson, and Liz Whitman-Goldfarb. Debra Wilson and Aries Spears appeared frequently as Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. The cast also added several new characters. Michael McDonald portrayed the Depressed Persian Tow Truck Man (later named Mofaz the next season), an irritable American immigrant who uses pop culture references to illustrate his family's shortcomings. Stephnie Weir played Dot Goddard, a seven-year-old girl whose intelligence pales next to her twin sister, Karen (Alex Borstein), a child genius who has written several books, found cures for diseases and planned NASA expeditions. Michael McDonald and Mo Collins played Dot's parents, who treasure Karen but despise Dot. Stephnie Weir also unveiled the characters Mrs. Campbell, a curious old lady, and Dr. Kylie, an immature, party-loving doctor. Season five guests Seth Green and Susan Sarandon returned periodically during season six. Christian Duguay impersonated Jay Leno, President George W. Bush, and *NSYNC member Joey Fatone. Duguay also played hyperactive preteen Edward and Loopgarue of "Loopgarue & Hulahoop," with Mo Collins as Hulahoop. Jeff Richards soon left MADtv but later appeared on Saturday Night Live, where he became well-known for his "Drunk Girl" character during his three-year tenure. Nelson Ascencio and Dannah Feinglass also left MADtv at the end of season six. Opening montage: The MADtv logo appears and the theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins. Each member of the repertory cast, followed by the featured cast, is introduced alphabetically. The screen is divided into three live-action clips of each cast member performing recurring characters during the introductions. MADtv Season 5: The fifth season of MADtv aired from September 25, 1999, to May 20, 2000, with 25 episodes. Season summary: Season five of MADtv began with only a few changes to the cast: Nelson Ascencio and Brooke Totman joined the show as featured players. This was the last season for Pat Kilbane and Phil LaMarr, who was an original cast member. Brooke Totman would also not return for another season. The previous year's newcomers, Michael McDonald and Mo Collins, reprised their wacky mother/son duo Stuart and Doreen Larkin; separately, Collins played Lorraine Swanson and McDonald played Marvin Tikvah and Rusty Miller. Alex Borstein's Ms. Swan starred in the multi-part sketch "Swan: The Homecoming," which featured special celebrity appearances in each episode by Garry Marshall, Mark Hamill, Dennis Hopper, Susan Sarandon, and Tony Shalhoub. After a notable weight loss, Will Sasso began to impersonate more celebrities such as James Gandolfini. Nicole Sullivan would be the first cast member to portray pop star Britney Spears. Aries Spears and Debra Wilson introduced a sketch called Reality Check, a fictitious talk show on BET. Former MADtv alumus Artie Lange made a special appearance, as well as celebrities Carmen Electra, Catherine O'Hara, George Carlin, Regis Philbin, Tim Robbins, and Alex Borstein's Family Guy co-star Seth Green (as recurring character Mr. Brightling). Opening montage: The MADtv logo appears and the theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins. Cast members are introduced alphabetically. July 21, 2008

MADtv Season 4: The fourth season of MADtv aired from September 12, 1998, to May 22, 1999, with 25 episodes. Season summary: The new season had several cast changes. Mary Scheer, Chris Hogan, and Lisa Kushell left the show. Andrew Bowen and Mo Collins joined as repertory players, with Michael McDonald as a featured player. Nicole Sullivan did not appear in the first five episodes of the fourth season. However, she did return in the sixth episode, the show's Halloween special, performing her popular characters Antonia and The Vancome Lady. Season four had a notable change of pace and format compared to the first three seasons. The show had a faster pace and began to use recurring characters, such as the wacky mother/son duo Doreen (Collins) and Stuart (McDonald) Larkin, more often. Separately, Collins played the eccentric Midwestern character Lorraine Swanson and McDonald played Jewish slob director Marvin Tikvah and overexcited dweeb Rusty Miller in sketches that appeared in heavy rotation. Original cast players Nicole Sullivan and Debra Wilson introduced new characters, playing Latina bimbos Lida and Melina together, while Wilson performed Bunifa, a fast-talking ghetto fabulous girl. Alex Borstein frequently appeared as Ms. Swan and Rosie O'Donnell; Pat Kilbane appeared as the Coffee Guy and the spokesman for Spishak, and performed his Howard Stern impersonation; Will Sasso frequently impersonated famous people such as Bill Clinton, Kenny Rogers, and Steven Seagal; and Aries Spears did several impersonations of popular African-American celebrities. Season four was marked by one notable controversy. During the episode that aired February 6, 1999, Bret Hart appeared in a sketch with Will Sasso. Hart, a WCW wrestler, attacked Sasso during filming. It was unclear whether this was part of the sketch or ad-libbed, until a MADtv head writer revealed that the fight was real and Sasso did actually bleed.[1] Hart returned three weeks later to accept Sasso's challenge of an arm-wrestling match. Opening montage: The MADtv logo appears against the backdrop of a busy street in Los Angeles. The theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins. Cast members are introduced alphabetically, with their names appearing in caption over a slow-motion montage of color still photos of them. When the last featured cast member is introduced, the music stops and the title sequence ends with the phrase "You are now watching MADtv." MADtv Season 1: The first season of MADtv aired from October 14, 1995, to June 22, 1996, with 19 episodes. Season summary: MADtv's first season premiered in the 1995 television season, on October 14 at 11 p.m., thirty minutes before the time-slot of its chief rival, Saturday Night Live. The original MADtv repertory cast members were Bryan Callen, David Herman, Orlando Jones, Phil LaMarr, Artie Lange, Mary Scheer, Nicole Sullivan, and Debra Wilson, with Craig Anton as a featured player. The first season's cast was a mixture of seasoned television and film veterans like LaMarr, Herman, and Scheer, and relatively unknown newcomers like Callen, Jones, Lange, Sullivan, and Wilson. The cast was one of the most ethnically diverse sketch comedy casts of the 1990s, with one Native American (and half Irish) male, one Jewish-American male, two African-American males, one African-American female, two white males and two white females. Season one of MADtv relied heavily on the fan base of MAD Magazine. Each episode featured the use of the MAD logo (which is still used today), Alfred E. Neuman images and puns, the Spy vs. Spy cartoons, and the catchphrase "What...me worry?" The first season also established some of the series' landmark characters like Jaq the UBS Guy (LaMarr), The Vancome Lady (Sullivan), Clorox (Anton), Mrs. Jewel Barone (Scheer) and Momma (Lange) from That's My White Momma. This season also produced several enduring celebrity parodies like Oprah Winfrey (Wilson), Tom Hanks (Herman) in Gump Fiction, and Dennis Rodman (Jones) making a public service announcement. Unlike Saturday Night Live, MADtv had no celebrity hosts during its first season. However, the show did have special guests including Kato Kaelin, Joe Walsh and Dean Stockwell, Peter Marshall, Michael Buffer, Adam West, Gary Coleman, Jamie Farr, Ken Norton, Jr, David Faustino, Claudia Schiffer, Kim Coles, Bruce McCulloch and Harland Williams. Musical groups like Poison, Pharcyde and The Presidents of the United States (who were the show's first musical guests) also made appearances on the show. The show was renewed for 24 more episodes the following season and the full cast was invited back to headline season two. Opening montage: The title sequence begins with several fingers pointing at a bomb. The bomb explodes and several different pictures of Alfred E. Neuman appear on the screen, followed by the MADtv logo. The theme song, performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins. Cast members are introduced alphabetically with their names appearing in caption over live-action clips of each performer. More pictures of Alfred E. Neuman appear between the introduction of each cast member. When the last cast member is introduced, the music stops and the title sequence ends with the phrase "You are now watching MADtv." Cast: -Bryan Callen -David Herman -Orlando Jones -Phil LaMarr -Artie Lange -Mary Scheer -Nicole Sullivan -Debra Wilson Featured: -Craig Anton DVD releases: All 19 episodes from season one were released on DVD on September 21, 2004, in a boxed set entitled MADtv: The Complete First Season. The audio track included on this release was a Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround mix. Extra features included the 200th episode of MADtv (from season nine), the best of MADtv's commercial, movie, television, music video and animation parodies, a reel of season one bloopers, nine unaired sketches and a preview of MADtv: The Complete Second Season. The season one box set remains the only complete season DVD release of the MADtv series. However, a compilation of select sketches, entitled MADtv: The Best of Seasons 8, 9 & 10, was released on October 25, 2005. June 30, 2008

LOS ANGELES - Beneath towering arches in an old cathedral downtown, a 20-member choir welcomed guests at the BET Awards pre-party with a rousing gospel tune. ADVERTISEMENT Nelly, Ashanti, Jermaine Dupri and Jill Scott were among those who gathered Monday at Vibiana — a majestic church built in 1876 — for a private dinner hosted by Black Entertainment Television chairman Debra Lee. As preparations for Tuesday's BET Awards, which recognize the best in black entertainment in 15 categories, continued at the nearby Shrine Auditorium, nominees, sponsors and industry executives dined and danced in honor of the occasion. "This night gives us a reason to celebrate," Lee said. "We're truly honored to be able to recognize the artists who are so important in our community. Not just the music, but the actors and athletes." Nominee Soulja Boy said he was glad to be included. "I hope I win," the 17-year-old rapper said. "The BET Awards represents me, where I come from and everything." He was especially excited about seeing fellow nominee Lil Wayne perform on the show. Dupri, a producer who has worked with Mariah Carey and Usher, said he still gets a thrill from seeing celebs at the BET Awards. "You get all the stars under one roof," he said. "And it continues to grow." The historic cathedral took on a tropical vibe, thanks to bouquets of pink and purple orchids atop lime green tablecloths. Partygoers, including MC Lyte and Tyrese, boogied on the dance floor before sitting down to a dinner of lobster-and-grapefruit salad followed by a grilled veal chop. Scott, who is set to perform a tribute to lifetime achievement award honoree Al Green on Tuesday's show, kept things cooking into the night with a spirited set backed by an 11-piece band.
