To someone who has never read the Declaration of Independence, it can be assumed that it's meaning would be nothing more than just a declaration that our original 13 colonies would be a nation independent of the rule of the British. Yet it is more than just a declaration of independence. It is a declaration of what was wrong with the rule of the king and in being this, it became a declaration of what the government's duty is to the people. That is why even to this day, the Declaration of Independence is still treated with the same relevance as that of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. So what can the Declaration of Independence tell us about life in 2008? Well let's first look at The Declaration itself. It's centered around two main concepts: that of natural rights and the consent of the governed. Basically, we all have natural rights and those rights, primarily life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, should be protected by the government. In addition to that, if the people feel as if their government is not upholding to this duty, then it should be their right and obligation to change it. In 2008, it is a known fact the current administration is not looked upon favorably by the majority and some have even felt as if rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness have been denied to them. What the Declaration can tell us about life in 2008 is that it doesn't have to be one in which we just accept the will of the government. In fact, The Declaration tells us that we, as the people, have a right to change the government as we see fit. In fact, that concept is in action right now as we gear up for the 2008 Presidential Election. In the end, the Declaration of Independence can tell us that life in 2008 and the future can change from the one that we have today. And as people start to change the government, we must remind ourselves that this right to change is not one that is radical, nor is it one of upheaval. Yet this right to change was given to us since the day that the original 13 colonies became the United States of America. My latest attempt to reason with venomfangx. In the meantime it looks like Venomfangx has now utterly lost the plot, claiming in his latest video (initially entitled 'I can disprove Evolution (How I won the Nobel Prize)) that: 'I expect my nobel prize to be given to Shawn, the possessor of the Venomfangx youtube account.' It is difficult to know how to respond to that other than to say that he has formally unplugged from reality. This is such an utterly wild statement that its no longer in the realm of mere ignorance and stupidity, but into the range of 4* batshit crazy! He also has given up actually appearing in his videos (I can't think where he got that non-narcissistic idea from!) He now claims merely to have disproved evolution, and all it took was a 10 minute unfocused ramble where he ignores virtually everything that has been discovered over the last 150 yrs. Regrettably a display of ignorance is not an accepted method of 'disproving' something in the scientific literature.
