Villains We Love: Elle Driver

Villains We Love: Elle Driver

from Cinematical on October 30, 2009
Duration: 0
There are villains we love, and villains we'd love to be -- at least fictionally, imaginatively within our own little dream worlds. These are worlds where we don't have to really kill anybody or do anything bad, but can just lather ourselves in their badassedness, especially as the time ticks down towards Halloween. For me, there's probably no villain I'd rather mimic than Kill Bill's Elle Driver, California Mountain Snake. I was mesmerized when Daryl Hannah whistled her way into the hospital in the sexiest and coolest white suit known to man, only to change into something as equally cool -- taking the nurse look so far that there's even that bright red cross adorning her white eye patch. Cool song, cool clothes, and cool fighting style. If Uma didn't do such a great job, I would've been rooting for Elle the whole time. Of course, every time I watch the scene after the jump, I always grumble about the fact that every costume store sells "sexy nurse" outfits, but no truly sexy nurse outfits. Sorry models, but your practically bare-arsed images on those skimpy little costumes are no match for head-to-toe white suits with red umbrellas, or form fitting and classic white nurses' uniforms. But one day... I'll sew one myself if I have to!Filed under: Fandom, Scenes We LoveContinue reading Villains We Love: Elle Driver Permalink | Email this | Comments

from Greener Living Today - Podcasts powered by Odiogo on June 08, 2009

On Friday, June 5th “Home”, an environmental documentary set a record with its simultaneous release in over 87 countries. In the U.S. it aired on the National Geographic channel at 9:00 PM and on a YouTube channel known as “HomeProject”. What struck me the most about the film was the spectacular photography taken over 18 months in more than 50 countries. The photography was mostly shot from a helicopter with high definition “Cineflex” cameras producing clear and steady footage with amazing clarity and color. Those of us involved in the green movement are probably familiar with most of the information artfully delivered by Glenn Close. However, this is the first time I’ve ever seen it presented with such visual impact. The film focuses on the delicate planetary balances existing on earth and demonstrates how no organism can be self-sufficient. It goes on to show how the human species has upset this balance with examples of industrial farming and cattle ranching, deforestation, and mismanagement of food, water and natural resources. Again, nothing new to us, but very effectively presented. At the end of the film we’re reminded that all is not lost.  That small changes made by individuals make an enormous difference to what seems to be irreversible damage to our planet.  The film also looks at the international community and how co-operation between nations has found win-win solutions to many environmental concerns. Then, there’s the fun part.  Even environmentalists love a good party and Stella McCartney’s outdoor picnic at her West Hollywood store was the place to see the film and be seen in the newest eco-chic fashions. Stella has designed comfortable, environmentally friendly fashions which were proudly worn by her eco minded host committee: Anjelica Huston, Cameron Diaz, Daryl Hannah, Liv Tyler, Charlize Theron, Emily Deschanel, Rosario Dawson, and Jessica Capshaw.   Guests including Rosanna Arquette, Tracey Ellis Ross, Katherine McPhee, Rachel Zoe, Max Winkler and Sasha Spielberg sat at and on eco garden furniture, walked on eco-turf, drank sustainable cocktails, ate organic vegan picnic food and enjoyed organic wine. My kind of party! Go Stella!
