Schattenkinder - The Dream of a Different World At special moments, a sparkling rain of dreams, desires and fantasies falls on the desert of everyday life. "Weisser Regen" - the new album from "Schattenkinder" - tries to musically capture these moments. The result is a romantic, melancholic and surreal journey through emotional worlds of the five musician's very different personalities. As such the hearer encounters Helene, who is all-seeing but never heard by anybody, and learns through a music box dancer about her most secret wish and about the two lovers who know each other only in their dreams. "Schattenkinder" is a Darkwave / Heavenly Voices darkwave band from Saxony that, in the current line-up, has existed since the beginning of 2003. Besides Darkwave and Heavenly Voices the hearer will also recognize leanings toward Gothic, Neoclassic, Folk, Jazz and Trip-Hop. Rooted in Dark Wave and Heavenly Voices Schattenkinder were launched 2001 by Reiner as a studio project. Vocalist Madeleine quickly joined as a second permanent member of the project and the duet made its first steps. Many line-up changes followed and the duet grew into a quintet. Since early 2003 Sven, Katja and Katharina have joined Schattenkinder. Inspired by new creativity the studio project progresses and exceeds its boundaries. Both female lead singers, Katharina and Madeleine, enchant with their elf-like voices, when they in dream-like melodies sing of lost worlds and magical times. Founder and keyboard player Reiner surprises especially with intricate sounds and curious rhythms. Accompanying is Katja with classical violin and Chinese Erhu, with which she lends the songs a slightly oriental touch. Sven on electric guitar and bass provides the necessary drive. A characteristic of "Schattenkinder" is the romantically melancholic lyrics, through which the band discovers the Babel of languages. In 2004, "Schattenkinder" released their debut album "Vision of Nightfall", which evokes listeners addicted to Gothic and medieval-like music. In February 2008, "Weisser Regen" follows released under the label "Curzweyhl". For the recordings of the new album the band is supported by some guest musicians, e.g. Carsten Hundt, double bass player from the German Goth-Metal Band Adversus. "Weisser Regen", in comparison to the debut album, comes across as more diverse and mature. On stage, the rather quiete but often surprising music of "Schattenkinder" is accompanied by an elaborately produced video background show. The brothers Johann and Oskar Bernövall from Uppsala (Sweden) wanted something to do back in 2005. Inspired by early punk like New York Dolls and Sex Pistols and early 80s stuff like Joy Division, they put a band together. Years of strange gigs (often with 2 or 3 people in the audience) and musical evolution has led to where we are at now. The first self-titled EP is produced by Kristofer Jönsson from Jeniferever and released autumn 2006. The second EP 'No Spark' was recorded in a strange garage in the summer of 2007 and was released the same fall. The two new songs for the EP-Compilation 'No Spark (Extended)' are demos recorded by the band, as a example of what is and what will be. But no one knows what tomorrow will bring... Following the publication of the album "Impressions" in the year 2006, the Berlin Wave project REBENTISCH released the new album "Intimität" at the end of 2007. Many of the recent releases are almost sold out and that's why a handful of already well-known title have been picked out, just remastered and arranged in a really wonderful new designed cover. For this digital re-released in May 2008 on afmusic, mastermind Sven decided to attach 3 more previously unreleased remixes from his archive. The result is an extremely personal album, which in addition to the melancholy "Single", the catchy tunes "Der Biss" and "Keine Zukunft" and the accusing "Ich spür den Tod", many other facets of REBENTISCH's music are brought closer. Other highlights are "Durch Dich" with a very hypnotic synth melody and an interpretation of "Kindertotenlied" from Friedrich Rückert (1788 -1866). In addition to a kind of radio play called "Kurze Story", there is also a remix of "Die by Echoes", which REBENTISCH made for the friendly project THE DARK UNSPOKEN. Further more, the 3 remixes of JAN_SOLO and THE DARK UNSPOKEN give another perspective on the opus of the Berlin artist. With the single "Der Biss" (published in 05/02/2008) and the associated anti-discrimination-video, he positions himself against the absurd hatred against gays and lesbians in our society. I really need to look in to some sort of video editing software. Maybe the next video will actually just be a video. Imagine that! Anyway, the video is about cats, zombies, zombie cats, mummies, a mummy, some undead girl and a guy in a bunny suit. They get down on the dance floor and in a graveyard. Oh yeah, and I think the music falls into the darkwave genre, which is basically like disco for goths.

I've been playing with the idea of this theme show for a couple of months now, nothing but tracks from the (in)famous and heavily influential industrial label Wax Trax! This week Chris passed me an A Split Second single that I didn't have, and to get it to fit in I just *had* to execute the idea in my head.
