Living Green with Ed Begley Jr. and the Dalai Lama
from KUOW's Weekday April 10, 2008
You might recognize him from the comedy films, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind, or even from his TV role on St. Elsewhere. But Ed Begley, Jr. might be most proud of his latest role: helping Hollywood go green. The long time environmentalist lives in a solar powered house. His picket fence is made from recycled milk jugs. He even sells his all natural cleaning product, Begley's Best. Join us as Begley talks about doing his part to save the planet; and offers his suggestions to you. The Dalai Lama is coming to town April 11 15, and tickets are sold out. Over 150,000 people are waiting to see him. He's appearing with Dave Matthews at Key Arena one night, and packing Safeco Field the next. The event will be covered by international press, as well as students from Dharmsala, South Africa and Seattle. Since he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists has become a global celebrity. Richard Gere and Martin Scorsese are fans. Why does the Dalai Lama appeal to so many? How did a spiritual leader leap to rock star status? Does his celebrity help or hinder his cause? And what do Tibetans think of his worldwide celebrity?
