Cyd Charisse is at her best in "Baby You Knock Me Out" from the film "It's Always Fair Weather." A sequel to "On the Town," this was one of the last of the big 50s musicals. SCREEN GODDESSES: Cyd Charisse in a non dancing part II
from YouTube :: Tag // modest February 20, 2008
Cyd Charisse (born 1921) is probably best known for her dancing performances. So I was really surprised to see her in two non dancing parts. In both she comes through as a type of women which is not very often seen in movies: elegant but probably with a modest social background, lovely, aloof, almost self-effacing and yet determined - and with hints of a high moral integrity. A kind of a Mildred Pierce with a good heart. Her performance are quite minimalistic but it becomes her fabulously. These scenes are lifted from the movie East Side West Side (1949) dir. Mervyn Le Roy and edited to the tunes of the Sérénade melancolique, op. 26 by Pyotr Il'ych Tchaikovsky. Jerome Kern Life Story Film 1946 Sinatra & Garland Cameo
from MoviesandTelevision - recent posts - blip.tv (beta) November 14, 2007
Till the Clouds Roll By is a big budget musical filled with stunningly beautiful performances. Ostensibly a musical about the life of beloved composer Jerome Kern, what s really showcased is Kern s wealth of classic Broadway numbers. Though Kern passed away during filming, he was deeply connected with the production of Till the Clouds Roll By, and it shows. Not only is the music of the highest quality, an all star cast of actors, musicians, and singers were on hand to produce this sonic masterpiece. Notably, Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra reach lofty heights as the brightest stars amongst such a rich group. Till the Clouds Roll By is a timeless treat that celebrates the life s work of a prolific musical genius.
