It was a week of wondering, but Dickinson State now knows they're in the NAIA National Playoffs and that their opponent is a familiar one. For more on that, Tia Streeter takes us 'Soarin' With the Blue Hawks.' " (TIA STREETER/ KX SPORTS) According to Head Coach Hank Biesiot, it seems the Blue Hawks are playing Carroll College every post season. And it's definetly close, 8 times DSU has faced Carroll, a team that's known for their tough defense. (HANK BIESIOT/ DSU HEAD COACH) Last year we missed some chances to score on them and they're so good on defense when you get the opportunity you've got to cash in (CODY HOLLAND/ DSU QUARTERBACK) you've just kind of got to take it week by week, the same mentality we've been going through coach Biesiot, just taking each week with a different approach a new on and just go from there ( TIA STREETER/ KX SPORTS) The Blue Hawks don't mind being an underdog, because no matter what the records say, there's always a chance to come out on top. (HANK BIESIOT/ DSU HEAD COACH) you know hard played there are some other little factors that figure in but basically it just comes down to a couple plays either way, and they always play hard against us and we've had close contests over the years with them." That was Tia Streeter reporting. The Saints have the edge on the Blue Hawks, as Carroll College has won the last five meeting between the two teams. This is DSU's 14th time making the national playoffs.

A new generation of patriots are ready to take the front line.. On 9/11 some of these men and women heading to war were not able to drive, take a geometry class or even apply to college. Brad Feldman has the story of two soldiers preparing for their first tour of duty.... (Video of 9/11) It's a moment you never forget. (Erik Anderson/ ND National Guard) "I was sitting in home base class." (Chad Czeczok/ ND National Guard) "I was in spanish class." These two soldiers... Erik Anderson about to head to the front line in Iraq...and Chad Czeczok going to Afghanistan...were only in junior high when the United States was attacked on September 11th, 2001. (Erik Anderson/ ND NAtional Guard) "Being that young we just, I didn't, have any comprehension of actually being able to join themilitary when I was old enough and be fighting for." (Chad Czeczok/ ND NAtional Guard) "To be able to go after somebody that did that to us and to be a part of that is an honor." Preparing to fight for this country just eight short years later...it's an honor they never gave a second thought while sitting in their classrooms that fateful day. Here is a yearbook picture of ___ Chad Czeczok as a ninth grader... This is __ Erik Anderson when he was only in the seventh grade... (Erik Anderson/ ND National Guard) "I look back and see that and I can see how much I have grown since that picture. How much I have learned and the experiences that I have had between my military experiences and just graduating from high school and those kinds of things. Now that I am older and have a family it is just kind of unbelievable to look back and see that. Just two months from leaving family, friends, classmates and their favorite teachers behind...they prepare for another assignment.. (Chad Czeczok/ ND National Guard) "Look at the situation that we have all these people that have gone already more than once you know that is crazy and I havn't gone at all and it is not rightin my eyes. I have to put my foot forward." Brad Feldman KX News A sendoff ceremony will be held for the three units heading to Iraq and Afgthanistan this Sunday in Grand Forks. "(Dave Hakstol) We don't want to be to ominus about what this weekend is about. It is going to be two good teams going at it pretty hard, I can tell you that and it will be great college hockey. (Mario LaMoureux:) When you get two teams that have been really good teams, like the top two in the country, the last few years, you can of expect that the rivalry is going to get built up. The North Dakota Board of Higher education has voted to OK financing details for new homes for the presidents of the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University. The board, meeting in Minot this morning, voted unanimously to allow NDSU to use nearly $200,000 in money from non-tax funds such as money collected selling soft drinks on campus to pay for cost overruns for the NDSU president's house. But one board member expressed displeasure with allowing NDSU to use anything but privately-raised funds for the more-than-two million dollar home. (Jon Jackson, Higher Ed Board Member) "Couple hundred thousand dollars, that's about as much as these institutiions have to say, we're going to give this to student and faculty initiated research projects, whether they're scholarly activity in Poetry or cell biology. It's a bad idea from that standpoint." The Board of Higher Education had earlier voted to require that no student or taxpayer money be used for the home projects at either NDSU or UND. The board was told today that UND's Foundation is picking up all of the cost overruns.

Video: City Growth Stretches Services

This week we've been looking into the growth of the Magic City........new areas that have been annexed into city limits and the construction boom. But with those additions come new challenges for city workers to maintain and service those new areas. Shaun Sipma has more. The city of Minot had covered roughly 14 and a half square miles for many years. Area patrolled by police, covered by the Fire Department, Serviced by sanitation and cleared by city street crews. In roughly the past six years though that number has grown to over 17 and a half square miles. (Rick Hair, Minot Street Superintendent) "We are responsible for those streets now." Minot Street SUperintendent Rick Hair says he's been with the department since 2005 and has been operating with the same number of personnel and equipment since then. (Rick Hair, Minot Street Superintendent) "It does make it difficult, you can drive around and see how we've expanded and we try to keep up and it's going to get difficult as we go but we know that ahead of time." And time for his department is an issue. As we saw last winter each new snow storm meant more time to get streets cleared. Hair's request in the last budget for two more people and another blade was denied but he plans to renew those requests in the next budget in 2011. (Dean Frantsvog, President of the Minot City Council) "With the the huge amount of growth we've experience over the past several years we have a additional strain on those services." Minot City Council President Representing Ward 3, Dean Frantsvog says therer have been growing pains in the past several years. He says the council is talking with city deparmtent heads about their growing needs and is already looking to expand some departments. (Dean Frantsvog, President of the Minot City Council) "Right now at next months city council agenda we're going to discuss adding three new firefighters to the city." He says though with needs from every department growing it's difficult to meet those needs right away. Frantsvog says it's a delicate ballance of services and needs, and taxes to pay for them. He says often times there's an up front cost to pay for expansion. (Dean Frantsvog, President of the Minot City Council) "You bring in new property and that increases and that adds to the tax roll but sometimes there is a little bit of a delay in that before we can actually receive the tax dollars that accompany those new properties." That delay means people in places like the street department have to do more - and ask for your patience - while they wait to grow to meet the new needs of a growing city. In Minot, Shaun Sipma KX News.

In just over 30 days, the Bismarck Bobcats have played nine games... and haven't lost any of them in regulation. For more on that, lets go 'Inside the Den!' "When's the last time the Bismarck Bobcats have lost in regulation you ask? The answer is October 16th... and in the month's time since then, the Cats have earned at least one point every game that they've played, including five of a possible six this weekend. As a result, they are tied for first place in the Central. (Byron Pool:) I am confident that these guys have sort of started to buy into what we are teaching and regardless of the results during the weekend, as long as we continue to work hard and get better, that is sort of all that we look for.on a week to week basis. Not only are the Cats earning points, they're earning honors... Forward Sean McKenzie is the current Central Division Player of the Week. (Byron Pool:) The other nice thing is that they have really responded in practice and Tuesday and Wednesday have been two of our best days in practice and we are starting to come closer together as a team and enjoy each other as a team and that little thing right there could make a large difference. Recently, Ryan Faraghar was the NAHL's Goalie of the week...and the combination of him and Ryan Massa has given the Cats yet another dynamic duo between the pipes. (Byron Pool:) It is important for us to go out everynight and give the guys a chance to win and it is also important that if they don't have a good game, that we can up our game so that we can have a good chance to win. " The Cats wrap up their six game road trip, with three more this weekend. On Friday and Saturday, they're in Alexandria and on Sunday, they're at Owatonna.
