From : Revver - american Videos<br />Author: captainColon Added: Sat, 15 Mar 2008 18:16:21 -0800 Duration: 46For more info. go to www.CaptainColon.com or http://www.VolcanoHealing.com testimonials http://www.volcanohealing.com/testimonials.html What is inflammatory bowel disease? Inflammatory bowel disease is the name of a group of disorders that cause the intestines to become inflamed (red and swollen). The inflammation lasts a long time and usually comes back over and over again. More than 600,000 Americans have some kind of inflammatory bowel disease every year. If you have inflammatory bowel disease, you may have abdominal cramps and pain, diarrhea, weight loss and bleeding from your intestines. Two kinds of inflammatory bowel disease are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Crohn's disease usually causes ulcers (open sores) along the length of the small and large intestines. Crohn's disease either spares the rectum, or causes inflammation or infection with drainage around the rectum. Ulcerative colitis usually causes ulcers in the lower part of the large intestine, often starting at the rectum. What causes inflammatory bowel disease? The exact causes are unknown. The disease may be caused by a germ or by an immune system problem. You don't have to worry about your family members catching the disease from you, because it isn't contagious. However, inflammatory bowel disease does seem to be hereditary (runs in your family). How is inflammatory bowel disease diagnosed? Based on your symptoms, your doctor may suspect that you have Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Your bowel movements may be tested for germs and the presence of blood. Your doctor will probably look inside your intestines with a sigmoidoscope or a colonoscope. In these procedures, the doctor uses a narrow flexible tube to look directly inside your intestines. Special x-rays may be helpful in diagnosing this illness. How is inflammatory bowel disease treated? The best thing you can do is take good care of yourself. It's important to eat a healthy diet. Depending on your symptoms, your doctor may ask you to cut down on the amount of fiber or dairy products in your diet. In addition to eating well, you need to get enough rest. It's also important that you learn to manage the stress in your life. When you become overly upset by things that happen at home or at work, your intestinal problems can get worse. You will most likely be treated by a team of doctors. This team may include your family physician, a gastroenterologist (a specialist in stomach and intestinal disorders) and, possibly, a surgeon. http://www.emfnews.org/qlinks.html The goal of treatment is to get rid of the inflammation. Many types of medicine can reduce inflammation, including anti-inflammatory drugs such as sulfasalazine (brand name: Azulfidine), corticosteroids such as prednisone, and immune system suppressors such as azathioprine (brand name: Imuran) and mercaptopurine (brand name: Purinethol). An antibiotic, such as metronidazole (brand name: Flagyl), may also be helpful for killing germs in the intestines, especially if you have Crohn's disease. To help treat your symptoms, your doctor may recommend anti-diarrheals, laxatives, pain relievers or other over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. It is important to talk to your doctor before taking any OTC medicine on your own. Your body may not be able to handle the effects of medicine. If you have severe symptoms, such as diarrhea, fever or vomiting, you may need to go to the hospital to be treated with special fluids and medicines that must be given intravenously (in your veins). If your ulcerative colitis becomes so severe that it can't be helped by medicines, it may be necessary to remove part or all of your colon surgically. Crohn's disease usually isn't helped with surgery. For more info. go to www.CaptainColon.com or http://www.VolcanoHealing.com testimonials http://www.volcanohealing.com/testimonials.html

From : YouTube :: Tag // oprah<br />Dear Oprah, I am 14 years old. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when I was 9. Usually, Crohn's is inflammation in the intestines causing abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, I have disease in my bones, joints, trachea and bladder as well as in my intestines. There is no cure for Crohn's and it significantly increases the chances of getting colon cancer. My 12 year old brother also has the disease. I have been on steroids many times to treat my disease. Last year, I was hospitalized twice and I missed a month of school. Instead of using steroids again, my doctor gave me the option of going on a liquid formula diet designed for people with Crohn's. I did well for a while, but I am having difficulties transitioning back to food. The formula has been my only source of nutrition for most of the past year. My mission is to educate and spread awareness about inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) so that it can be better understood by children, teens and adults. I am very involved with the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). I am the Youth Ambassador for the CCFA. Once people understand what the disease involves, the public will be more willing to help. Some of the things I have done to accomplish my mission include the following: • I lobbied and testified before a Senate subcommittee to pass the Restroom Access Act in Minnesota. (It was made a law in August 2007) • I have lobbied in DC to increase funding for IBD research. • I have shared my story at numerous CCFA fundraisers to help spread awareness and raise research dollars to help find a cure. • I have submitted essays to teen literary magazines about Crohn's disease. • I appeared on the local TV news and in the St.Paul newspaper telling my story and promoting Crohn's awareness. • I have created a fundraiser, Project CURE (Communication, Understanding, Respect, Education). I make bracelets and sell them to raise money for Camp Oasis, a camp for kids with IBD. If you did a segment on IBD it would help spread awareness significantly and would ultimately help more people to understand the disease. It is the first step in finding a cure. Thank you far taking time to learn about my story. I hope you can help me teach more people about IBD. Best Wishes. From : Dailymotion - channel news<br />First up, let's see what's making waves in Nautical News... On June 8th John Moffatt set out from Miami on his Sea Doo, and four months later he had set the world record for personal watercraft distance at 11,525 miles. The 43 year-old had two sources of motivation. First was his sister who suffers from Crohn's disease. And second was the desire to reclaim his world record. Next up, it's time for our BoatTEST Reports Feature of the Week. Then in ShipShape... No ice, no problems! If you must keep your boat in the water during the winter months, a deicing device or bubbling system is needed for water that tends to freeze. The Scott Aerator No-Icer is one leading brand worth looking into. A Scott No-Icer keeps the area around your boat free of damaging ice. And finally, it's time to reveal Stacey's TheBoaters.com Sealebrity profile pick of the day, which is: Captain Kirk Heilman and his 30 foot Sea Ray, Fishin 4 Trophies! http://TheBoaters.TV airs every M, W & F and is available on iTunes.
