The exhibition Knockin on Heaven s Door at the Kunstmuseum in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, explores contemporary artistic representations of body/soul, body/mind, matter/consciousness. On display are works by Marina Abramovic/Ulay, Absalon, Samuel Beckett, Joseph Beuys, Andrea Fraser, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Dan Graham, Kimsooja, Korpys/L ffler, Thomas Lehnerer, Matt Mullican, Bruce Nauman, Gabriel Orozco, Kristine O wald, and Gina Pane. On Friday, September 26, 2008, the Arlington Arts Center held a discussion to supplement the currently showing Picturing Politics 2008, an exhibit which explores the relationship between contemporary art and politics. Director of Exhibitions Jeffry Cudlin moderates a panel that includes: Rex Weil, Curator of the Exhibit Kriston Capps, arts writer for Sculpture Magazine, Art in America, Art Papers, and countless other publications including his own influential arts blog, Grammarpolice. Welmoed Laanstra, public art projects curator for Arlington. As an independent curator, Laanstra is known for the Found Sound and Street Scenes public art projects she organized in Washington, D.C. Josh Shannon, professor of contemporary art history and theory at the University of Maryland, College Park. His book, The Disappearance of Objects: New York Art and the Rise of the Postmodern City, 1960, will be published by Yale University Press in Spring, 2009. Topics discussed: What s the difference between political expression out in the world and inside the gallery environment? Is political speech in the gallery protected? Does it have teeth, or does it exist simply to be consumed or marginalized? How does contemporary art speak to pop culture and to the media and vice-versa?

Every year the Palais de Tokyo gives an artist carte blanche. After Ugo Rondinone in 2007, this year Jeremy Deller was free to devise and stage an exhibition at the renowned contemporary art space in Paris, France. Jeremy Deller (born 1966) lives and works in London. In 2004 he was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize. The Folk Archive , which assembles British folklore items and documents such as customized motorbike helmets or banners from demonstrations, is the starting point for his exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo, D une r volution l autre (From one revolution to another).

In the second part of our Vincent Tavenne tour we attend the openings of the exhibitions at Caf Scholz, the city hall of Stuttgart and the Hospitalhof Stuttgart. While Upstairs at Caf Scholz presents smaller works by Vincent Tavenne, larger sculptures are on display at City Hall Stuttgart and Hospitalhof. One of the highlights is certainly Tavenne s installation in the tower gallery of the Hospitalhof, a sculpture that fills the entire stairway.More info.

ABC - Art Berlin Contemporary

From the 4th until the 7th September 2008, kicking off the season, ABC Art Berlin Contemporary presented a survey show for contemporary art in Berlin. 41 Berlin galleries such as Arndt & Partner, Contemporary Fine Arts, Johnen Galerie, Zak | Branicka participated in this sales show which combined openings at the galleries as well as a large-scale exhibition in the halls of the former Postbahnhof at Gleisdreieck in Berlin Kreuzberg. Lizza May David went to the fair on the 4th September and attended the opening for us. More info.

Chiara Dynys (born 1958 in Mantova, lives and works in Milan, Italy) works in the fields of installation, photography and sculpture. For ArteBregaglia, the art project in the Bergell valley, Chiara Dynys chose the Church of San Gaudenzio at Casaccia as location. The words bellezza and sobriet , written in Gothic letters, emphasize the valley s polar identity between sobriety and beauty. At night, the letters are illuminated. More info.

Some fun for the weekend: Installed in the courtyard of the Manifattura Tabacchi in Rovereto, Italy (one of the locations of Manifesta 7), is a sculpture by Ricardo Jacinto, made of six gigantic black balloons, filled with helium. As the video shows, not only children have fun with the device that is diminishing one's weight by about 35kg and lifts up peoples bodies and spirits. The installation is called "Labyrinthitis". Burying of Art

On the second day of the St. Moritz Art Masters (the event runs until 6th September 2008) we went up a mountain with a group of journalists, gallerists, pr people and museum directors (Sam Keller was a bit late) to attend Christina Oiticica's performance "Burying of Art". Don't worry: She didn't bury art as such but some of her own works, and she will exhume them next year. More info.

Agnes B takes over Hong Kong! It is official, Agnes B does everything! Restaurants, fashion, flowers, travel accessories, home furnishings and now an art gallery. Along with Ready Made Magazine they launched an imaginative art exhibit where you have to squeeze through a little door and then enter into a large room to give the impression of emmensity. Michael Snow (born 1929) is a Canadian artist who works in various media such as painting, sculpture, photography and film. The film So Is This (16mm, b&w, silent, 45 minutes) is a text in which each shot is a single word. This episode shows a short excerpt from the film. More info.

David Shrigley: Monotypes

David Shrigley is an artist who works with various media: animations, drawings, sculptures, photographs. He is known for his cartoons released in softcover books and animations. At the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany, he presents monotypes, prints made in a single copy. Unlike his black-and-white drawings with their comic strip aesthetic, the monotypes on display at the Museum Ludwig are very colorful, but they show the same bizarre and morbid humor. More info.
