Le 03 novembre dernier l'AGM, l'association des Guinéens de Montpellier en collaboration avec l'association survie, a organisé une conférence débat sur LA SITUATION ACTUELLE DE LA GUINÉE après le massacre du 28 septembre 2009. The African Development Coalition was founded by students at Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut. Over the summer ADC members traveled to Guinea, where they spent 7 weeks in the small village of Mitty Maadou. The project included the installation of a water pump, the building of a house for teachers and the renovation of the village school.

Guinea's government has promised to investigate why troops from the presidential guard opened fire during a protest, says the death toll is much lower. A human rights group says at least 157 people were killed at the opposition rally in the West African country on Monday. More than a thousand of others were reportedly injured. Witnesses say soldiers raped women and stabbed protesters with knives. Moussa Camara, the country's leader, was hailed as a hero when he took power in a military coup in December. But as Al Jazeera's Hazem Sika reports, the people's attitude towards him has now changed.

A car tour along the center of the capital Conakry or Konakry is the capital and largest city of Guinea. Guinea's capital city is a port on the Atlantic Ocean. Originally situated on Tombo Island, one of the ??les de Los, it has since spread up the neighboring Kaloum Peninsula. The population of Conakry is difficult to ascertain, although the U.S. Bureau of African Affairs has estimated it at 2 million. Even given this uncertainty, Conakry makes up almost a quarter of the population of Guinea.

According to a legend, the name of the city comes from the fusion of the name Cona, a wine and cheese producer of the Baga people, and the word nakiri, which means the other bank or side. The city was essentially founded after Britain ceded the island to France in 1887. In 1885, the two island villages of Conakry and Boubinet had fewer than 500 inhabitants. Conakry became the capital of French Guinea in 1904 and prospered as an export port, particularly after a (now closed) railway to Kankan opened the large scale export of groundnut from the interior. In the decades after independence, the population of Conakry exploded, from 50,000 inhabitants in 1958 to 600,000 in 1980, to over two million today. Its small size and relative isolation from the mainland, while an advantage to its colonial founders, has created an infrastructural burden since independence.
