Spa Cloth A soft micro fiber cloth also know as a spa cloth is great for everyday use. I can get a squeaky clean face without using soap and not cause damage to my complexion. By: Natasha Morgan I once asked a friend who had beautiful skin if she did anything special to keep it looking so lovely. She said that a dermatologist, for whom she had once worked, suggested using baby shampoo to clean her face. It sounded like a pretty good idea since baby products are known to be gentle and contain minim amounts of impurities. Then, some years later, I discovered the “spa cloth” which is a piece fabric made of micro fiber. It promised to do so many things, I had to try one. Here are some of the claims manufacturers make about their “spa cloth” products: Diminish acne, blackheads and scars Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines Minimize age spots and freckles Keep oily skin under control Even out skin tone Bring life back to ashy dry skin Remove pore-clogging dirt and bacteria Increase blood flow to encourage skin cell reproduction Brighten the complexion and reveal glowing skin The average price for this miracle cloth was $15 which seemed pretty steep to me. After all, it’s only a glorified face cloth. So with the help of Google, I did some research on micro fiber aka “spa cloth”. I learned that this material is used for a myriad of tasks from drying dishes to washing cars. Its greatest benefit being that it lifts and traps dirt particles in its fibers without scratching. Apparently, the cloths are differently woven depending on their intended use. For example, some cloths are specifically geared to give you a microdermabrasion treatment. They are purposely pleated to provide enough abrasion to act as an exfoliator. However, if you have sensitive or dry skin, exfoliation twice a day is not a good idea. You can do more damage than good using this type of cloth regularly. So after all my investigation, I came to the conclusion that a soft micro fiber cloth is great for everyday use. I can get a squeaky clean face without using soap and not cause damage to my complexion. I still use a drop of baby shampoo to get rid of mascara and other tough to remove eye make-up. Then, a couple of times a week, I use the ribbed spa cloth that will exfoliate my skin. A final note on the cost: You can buy micro fiber cloths that will do an excellent job for a fraction of the price of those marketed as “spa cloths”.
