Change. A word that sparks fear in many people. We work to get to that comfortable spot, and we want to stay there. Nothing is certain except death and taxes. Ben Franklin We think he got it wrong, not in the message, but in the semantics. We think he should have explicitly included change as something that is certain, rather than making it implicit in his quote. Will you lead or follow? Even when it s change that we re creating ourselves, it can be scary. But it s especially frightening when it s a surprise. For example, picture Jane telling her boss that she s accepted a new position. She s going to experience change. But isn t that more comfortable than Jane s boss telling her that her job is being eliminated? It s better to be a leader of change than a follower. Who s in control? However, you can t always control change. What you can control all the time is how you choose to respond to it. You can also try to anticipate it. For example, as technology continues to develop, change is occurring more and more rapidly. Isn t it safe to assume that this will continue? So you have a choice to make. You either develop the skills to anticipate change so you get ahead of it or you just respond to it, after the pain becomes too great to do anything else. Bigg action item Separate the change into fads and trends There are fads and there are trends. Fads come and go, so don t worry about them. Trends are long-term. Get on board with them. Divide a sheet into two columns one called Fads and the other called Trends . In your chosen career, think about the things affecting your industry. Now start putting those changes into the appropriate column. What will affect your future income? Something will for good or for bad! Is it a short-term phenomenon? Or is it likely to continue? You can position yourself properly by seeing the change coming. What opportunities will be created? What skills will be important? Do you have them? Can you get them? Develop a plan for what you need to do to position yourself to take advantage of the trends. Where do I get this information? We ll look at two examples. Search for the name of your industry followed by the word association . For example, beauty salon association yielded a half-dozen or so associations in Google. You can also subscribe to magazines for your industry, or just about any industry you re interested in following. They re often free, supported by the advertisers. Amazon has an excellent resource that lists magazines by industry. It s an extensive list! Airhawk Motorcycle cushion Fits Ducati Monster. I am a dead set fan of these cushions. I have travelled tens of thousands of kilometres with an Airhawk on the Harley and the BMW and wouldn t head off without it. I also have the car/truck seat version on both seats in the Van and the utility Airhawk cushion on my office chair. Like I said I am a BIG fan of this Airhawk stuff. Once tried you won t go without it. I don t. The Ducati was another kettle of fish as the seat was much smaller. I spoke to Tom Thornley the Airhawk Guy and he told me he had sold plenty to sports bike riders who used the small pillion model which I already had for my wife. There were a few issues at first with the Monster, and once I overcame these it worked a treat. Here s how it looks on the bike. Shame about getting old and spoiling the smooth visuals but you can t see it once my lard arse is on the bike anyway. As you can see it fits quite nicely and covers most of the available seat. It fits on snugly with the supplied straps which have what I would call bra clips to adjust them. It goes on and off quickly if you want it to yet remains attached quite snugly. http://www.lote.orgFrom the evangelical perspective, an excellent way of using the Book of Revelation as a way to comfort and edify the church. The approach is very useful because it shows that there is more than one way to use Revelation to help the church, and furthermore it can be used in a way that does not cause controversy over various interpretations of the symbolism or competing doctrines of endtimes prophecy. While those discussions are useful for Bible - believing and adhering to have, they sometimes obscure the fact that the primary purpose of Revelation was to present to the church the Savior, Jesus Christ, in His glorified ascended and victorious state. The presentation of a Jesus Christ who suffered, died, and yet overcame for the church and is coming again for that same church should give us confidence that just as Satan was not able to prevail against Jesus Christ, He is not going to prevail against us, for our Redeemer lives and will one day justify us before the Father! So whatever sickness, weakness, family problems, financial problems, mental or emotional infirmities, grief, guilt over past sins or struggles with current sin, be not discouraged or afraid, because just as Jesus Christ overcame if you are in Christ you WILL do the same and share in His victory!And yes, the prophetic passages do play a role in the encouragement. While not getting into what a particular passage means, what a particular symbol represents, or the precise sequence of events, look at the big picture: the day of the Lord is coming! War, disease, famine, economic exploitation, slavery, racism, genocide, totalitarianism, greed, Sodom and Gomorrah moral and cultural climates ... you have but a short time, because Jesus Christ is going to return and deliver justice! The wicked of the world will be judged and destroyed in punishment, and all of world will be ruled by Jesus Christ with a rod of iron. So while conjecture over the identities of mystery Babylon and the man of sin isn't harmful - so long as an out of proportion fascination with it and/or arguments over it do not become a snare to you and tempt others - the main thing that Revelation depicts about them is that THEY WILL BE DESTROYED!The glorious revelation of Jesus Christ, the hope and the promise of the coming Jesus Christ, and the final victory over Satan, his demons, and death itself and the destruction of the wicked empires and systems of the world on the terrible glorious day of the Lord is perhaps the most useful application of the Book of Revelation to Christian doctrine and living. The imminent return of Jesus Christ and the soon to come destruction of the wicked as depicted in Revelation should serve as a call and exhortation to holiness through obedience to God's Word and also motivate us to honest sustained God - honoring evangelism. I hope that this sermon will contribute to a fruitful perspective on and use of the Revelation of Jesus Christ to His servant John in your life and ministry!
