Serious Materials specializes in cleantech materials that require minimal energy to manufacture and utilize in homes. Their EcoRock material is functionally equivalent to conventional drywall technology, but requires virtually no energy to manufacture, and their extremely high-insulating window technology requires significantly less energy consumption during heating and cooling. These could have a tremendous impact on the environment, since currently 52% of CO2 emissions are from the "built environment." In this interview, I sit down with Kevin Surace, CEO of Serious Materials, and he describes their technology, and also gives his take on the energy crisis and how cleantech building materials can significantly contribute to addressing the problem.
