Jeremy Clarkson calls it the BMW M5 at half the price. The HSV Clubsport R8 is a full-size car produced by Holden Special Vehicles in Australia since 1990. Holden also goes on to claim that it is one of the fastest sedans in the world, and this claim is not without merit. In the seven years of development, the car came to be Holden's largest and most costly project representing an expenditure exceeding AU$1 billion. Specifications include a 6.0 Litre V8 (414 BHP) engine called the "LS2" which is also used on the highly respected Corvette Z06 and the German developed Cadillac CTS V-Series. 0-62mph (100 km/h) in only 4.8 seconds mannual 5.0 auto and has a top speed of 175 mph (282 km/h). And the big aussie isnt so bad on the brakes either, holden claims that it can stop faster than Lamborghini Murcielago and a BMW M5. Fifth Gear Presenter Vicki Henderson actually tested this claim and found it to be true. So the question on my mind is, howcome we never heard of it before? The holden name outside Austrlia and New Zealand is pretty vague, so to make up for that they change the badges with popular car manufacturers in local markets with mutual agreement. In the UK its sold as the Vauxhall VXR8 for £35,105. In the Middle East and South Africa its sold as CSV CR8 by Chevrolet Special Vehicles for Saudi SR 180,000 and its cousin the Lumina SS with the same body, chasis and drive train but a different 6.0 L V8 362 BHP "L98 engine" is priced at SR 130,000 In America its sold as The Pontiac G8 GT starting at $35,000 which some reviewers say is a return to the legendary MOPAR era. Where as in Brazil its sold as the Chevrolet Omega. Personally I think this is the best thing Australia has ever made and in a couple of months I would've saved enough to buy one which makes it yours truly's personal pick. .
