Former Governor Dan Evans introduced Senator McCain and his roundtable discussion on the environment May 13, 2008 at the Seattle Public Utilities Cedar River Watershed Education Center in North Bend. McCain spoke with an Eagle Scout, an REI executive, a farmer, and others about emissions cap and trade and nuclear power. This was his first appearance in Washington since he became the presumptive GOP nominee for President.

John McCain is in North Bend Washington today to talk about the environment. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee wants a mandatory limit on greenhouse gas emissions. He also thinks nuclear power may help get us there. We'll take a closer look at McCain's proposals. Also today, is a politician's stage of life relevant? Is McCain too old? Is Obama too young? Airline pilots have to retire at age 65. Should there be a mandatory retirement age for presidents? There already is a mandatory minimum age. You can't run for president if you're under 35. Today he says we're going to have to make basic changes in capitalism if there is any hope of avoiding environmental catastrophe. Also today, imagine your life without electricity and without oil. You'd be growing your own food to survive, walking everywhere and your media consumption would consist of conversation. James Howard Kunstler has been predicting this future in non fiction books. Now he imagines this world in the new novel World Made By Hand. He'll explain how he thinks we'll be living in the not so distant future and why we shouldn't necessarily fear it.
