Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three "Claude Jones" and "Drinkin' Whiskey Tonight"

Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three "Claude Jones" and "Drinkin' Whiskey Tonight"

from The Lo-Fi Sessions on November 25, 2009
Duration: 439
If you've followed me on any of the social media networks I participate in you've no doubt been aware that I am a big advocate of Pokey LaFarge. I'm not getting compensated for it, though it might seem like it. I just see him as this musician that is exceptionally talented and rare, who has a unique sound that's willing to work hard to get somewhere in this world. He's on almost a non-stop tour schedule now with his band, The South City Three. I won't go into detail describing his sound you can hear it for yourself in the video, but I have gotten to know Pokey personally and I can tell you that his slight frame is packed with southern charm, the relentless drive of a wallstreet tycoon, the mischevious spirit of every class clown you've ever known, and what seems like one very old soul.

Ludo

Ludo

I hadn t heard much about this band before they started to make a big splash both locally and nationally recently. Don, my main contact at City Museum called me and said that they were interested in doing a video after they had seen Lo-Fi Sessions, and of course, being St. Louisians they were fans of City Museum. City Museum recently installed an enormous antique pipe organ in the part of the museum just above the caves. It s a tall chamber with spiral slides that reach the top of the building. When the building was home to shoe factory these slides were used to get product from the top of the building to the bottom to be packed for shipping. Now these slides have a more nobel purpose for humans to have fun. Anxious to show off this new installation, City Museum suggested that Ludo play on it to show it off. Ludo is busy doing what up and coming pop bands do these days, touring, playing national television shows, and recording. You can keep up with them on their site or their myspace page (of course). I found them to be very nice people, down to earth yet professional. I have to thank Tim Convey especially, my main contact with the band whom I found to be very friendly, warm and generous.

#222 The Trip Daddys

#222 The Trip Daddys

from LO-FI SAINT LOUIS DOCUMENTARYS on April 17, 2008
Duration: 0
This band has been kicking around St. Louis for the last 12 years or so. Amazingly, I really haven t shot video of them until now. I did catch Craig Daddy and with his other band (The Car Bombs) about a year ago, but this is the first time I ve shot this hard-working band. Craig is well known for being one of the best guitarists in the city and is also quite a showman. Find out where they are playing next on their website and go check them out for yourself.

Angleo Moore (whom you may know as the lead singer of Fishbone) came to City Museum to perform as Dr. Madd Vibe, his poetry dropping alter ego. It was quite an interesting performance in a very unique space. Also in this episode, a peek at our other project, Lo-Fi Sessions as well as a teaser for the next episode featuring veteran 60 s Garage Rockers, GONN.

#178 Doc Popular Yo-Yo Master!

#178 Doc Popular Yo-Yo Master!

from LO-FI SAINT LOUIS DOCUMENTARYS on July 22, 2007
Duration: 0
You might know Doc Popular as a nerdcore rapper, or a lo-fi techno musician who plays on bent toy electronics, or maybe you bought one of his crafty blue jean wallets, or read one of his comics, or maybe you ve seen him in a video or two. But I think this is the first time anyone has actually got him to sit down and talk about his career as a yo-yo champion. One doesn t get many chances to see a yo-yo champ perform, so I had to interview this San Francisco-based renaissance man when he was in St. Louis recently to judge a yo-yo contest. Oh, and I should mention that the music in this video was also written and performed by the man himself. Ok I was confused, the music is by The Atomic Bros, sorry about that.
