High:87 Direct link to the audio Details: The ridge in the upper-levels of the atmosphere (the jet stream buckling to the north) will build in earnest on Wednesday extending from the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, through the western Great Lakes, and all the way to Hudson Bay! Because this feature will be extending so far to the northeast, overnight thunderstorms that would usually turn southeast on the eastern side of our summertime anticyclone, may stay to the north much longer. This would leave the Kansas City area out of the influence of the rain cooled air air from these storms. I m not totally sold on this scenario yet, but a lack of rain-cooled air would bring temperatures around KC (especially downtown and north of town such as St. Joseph) into the upper 90s to near 100. None the less, I think the core of this feature flattens out by Friday, allowing some thunderstorms to effect the area before a cold front pushes through on Saturday. In the short term, a thunderstorm complex moving out of NW Iowa may leave an outflow boundary that could be the focus for some scattered t-storms tomorrow. Our chance for t-storms is smaller than it was on Tuesday, but still there none the less.
