The Royalty was our local cinema in Gosforth, near Newcastle upon Tyne,. In autumn 1981, I heard that it might close at the end of the year. December 30th 2006 was the 25th anniversary of the final film show. I was aged 19 in 1981 and, in the final couple of weeks, made this documentary about the Royalty and the great bunch people who worked there. Now, for the anniversary, and thanks to digital technology, the video has been cleaned up, re-edited and the sound remixed. This is just part one.
