Weezer- The 8-bit Album (Pterodactyl)

Weezer- The 8-bit Album (Pterodactyl)

from Phlow-Magazine - Free MP3 Music Culture on August 03, 2009

Perfect! | 14 chip tune celebrities interpret songs of college rock legends Weezer ("Buddy Holly"). That makes so much sense I wonder why it took the careful hands of Pterodactyl Squad Netlabel only now to make this album come to life. Great fun if you're a Weezer fan, catchy listen if you're an 8bit addict. The element that many chip tune musicians and most Weezer songs have in common is a certain will and addiction to melodies. Catchy melodies. OBSCENE melodies. While Weezer cross their kitschy music by River Cuomo's fragile vocal performance, in case of "Weezer- The 8-bit Album",  Nintendo and Atari TV games take the job. Did I mention it works like perfect? The spectrum ranges from "band" (Anamanaguchi, :(, I Fight Dragons,  and - surprise! - Bit Shifter) to oldschool gameboy-only (Tugboat, Nordloef, Arcadecoma). You don't need much more. This is the lovely liner notes Pterodactyl Squad put on: "Do you remember that dream you had, where the sound chips from the beloved games consoles of your youth all got together and formed a Weezer tribute band? Yeah? No? OK. That dream is about to come true whether you had it or not." * * * * T-SHIRTS * * * * http://www.mysoti.com/mysoti/designer/judebuffum/product/393033 By popular demand, buy a shirt so we can bring you more videos like this! PLEASE READ! Okay, so in hindsight I guess I should have searched to see if anyone else had done this idea. After I uploaded it, I saw that someone had. What's funny is that we both thought of the EXACT same video game Fail. I thought about changing the first part of the video, but to be truthful, that would almost be more dishonest. I do think I spent a great deal more time on mine, recreating the game play from scratch instead of using video capture from the game and the cat is a bit more 8-bit . The most noticeable difference though might be the excellent music created by Doctor Octoroc, he really nailed this one. Animation www.judebuffum.com Music www.doctoroctoroc.com

Kung Fu Master (1984) was an arcade game developed by Irem Corporation in Japan, later ported to the Commodore 64. We have modified this game and mixed it with our C64-music that's re-arranged and modified live. With the Retro Replay cartridge for C64 we gain full access to the RAM of the C64 to manipulate the game's graphics and functionality. The blue screen that appears at some points is the interface of the cartridge and the lists of letters and numbers is the data in the RAM. By simply changing this data, you modify the game. This technique was also used for the music. The music was composed on C64 with JCH Editor 3.04 (1991), produced by Jens Christian Huus. We re-arranged two songs live in JCH Editor and also manipulated the RAM to gain interesting sounds normally outside the range of the music software. One song is, in its original form, also used in the C64-production Deep Throat by Durex.
