Ollie and I are both rather worried about the large hadron collider, even though I am not entirely sure what it does and what a hadron actually is. This conversation was almost half an hour - I have edited it (we did decide a Hadron definitely has nothing to do with Harry Potter fanfiction and is certainly not what you call it when Harry, Draco and Ron get together, but that isn't here). I made the mistake of getting filmed on my bad side again! Author: Eliseharris Keywords: large hadron collider black hole rubbish nonsense ukulele eliseharris olliethebean Added: July 6, 2008

A prophecy of French prophet Nostradamus, 9 44, may predict the CERN Large Hadron Collider LHC proton particle accelerator being built near Geneva on the France Swiss border may produce a black hole or strangelet particle that could swallow earth or cause some other great disaster. Also a Book of Revelation prophecy and King James version English Bible Code matrices on this subject. RAYPOZ in Century 9 Number 44 may refer to the positive ray of the LHC. Could this be a Doomsday Machine? Could this cause the 2012 Mayan calendar destruction of earth? LHC is to be turned on in mid 2008. Fifteen years ago Tim Berners-Lee convinced his bosses at CERN to make his design of the Web open and free to everyone. It was a critical decision as we all realize now. Billions upon billions have been made as a result of that decision. I don't think he got any of that though. San Francisco and Silicon Valley are the hubs of innovation in the Web. What can we expect in the next 15 years? Semantic Web, wireless ubiquity, and mobile content following us wherever we go. For more go to sparkminute.com.

Thumbnail Views: Via Thumblicio.us SEARCH ANY STORY YOU HEAR ON THE PODCAST Superfast Internet and Ten Ways by Andrew McCaskey It s rare that two sides of the same coin show up in the same day s news - but there are two exciting and thought provoking items today. First, the CERN based optical network promising 10,000 fold increases in speed - replacing the thirty year rollout that is today s internet. Second, the thoughtful description of how the internet of today is highly unlikely to be the one that will be used by our grandchildren. Since our first one is expected in September, a timely discussion, indeed. What was the state of computer communications available to the average tech minded enthusiast 21 years ago ? Surprisingly useful - even with 8 bit processors, CP/M and 300 baud modems. Rudimentary email, FIDOnet forwarding schemes and printers, if not the graphics we have become some used to today. In fact, computer communications were probably in better shape that mobile communications. - with just the glimmer of analog cellphone systems replacing FM simplex and duplex links and mobile phones. The GigOM analysis of ten ways the internet might die has a heavy dose of human nature, regulation, and lawyers. Never a good combination. Tiny Black HolesTiny Black Holes
from NOVA scienceNOW
July 06, 2007

CERN's massive particle collider in Geneva, Switzerland, may create tiny black holes when it goes online -- hopefully -- in 2008. Not to worry, though: In this podcast, physicist Dave Wark explains that there's no way these can destroy the world. This podcast was produced by David Levin. Interview with Dave Wark by Rima Chaddha. NOVA is produced by WGBH in Boston. Major funding for NOVA scienceNOW is provided by the National Science Foundation and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Additional funding is provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and public television viewers. To learn more, visit http://www.pbs.org/nova/sciencenow
