Limited Appeal - Genital CuffLimited Appeal - Genital Cuff
from Limited Appeal
July 24, 2008

After John spanks T-bone and threatens to get out the genital cuff, Warren asks us whether Bob Saget has gone nuts as a way of psychologically coping with the Full House days. Listen and you might find out why Bob Saget got the part and whether James Earl Jones was involved. Then in a new Good Idea/Bad Idea segment, Warren asks us to consider the ethics of provoking seizures and migraines in epilectics. Is it morally equivalent to exploiting or decapacitating the deaf? These are important problems, even if decapacitate was not a word until just now. If you can help John and his bugs with some directions, let us know by email (maskedman@limitedappeal.net). Many viewers are complaining that I am a censor buff, they're so mad that I won't let them talk, that they post on other people's videos complaining about how I won't give them a chance to chew me out publicly. Well here's the fix all solution --- I've enabled everyone to comment freely on all of my higher-rated videos, I may enable all of it soon. The reason I did this is because I can no longer manage the comments the way I used to. So now, for the sake of not wasting people's time with never having their comment seen, I've enabled it. Yes, the viewers do have a say, and yes I do listen. David Hajdu - Censorship in the Comic Book IndustryDavid Hajdu - Censorship in the Comic Book Industry
from FORA.tv - Daily Video FORAcast
April 24, 2008

Complete video at: http://fora.tv/2008/03/21/David_Hajdu_Ten-Cent_Plague Author David Hajdu discusses 1950's-era self-censorship in the comic book industry. ----- "The Ten-Cent Plague: The Great Comic-Book Scare and How It Changed America" with author David Hajdu. Comic books, not rock-and-roll, created the generation gap. (They also spawned juvenile delinquency, crime, sexual deviance, and things of such depravity that were we to name them, our note wouldn't get through your "adult content" filter.) Long before Elvis appeared on Ed Sullivan from the waist up, long before Jerry Lee Lewis married his cousin, long before James Dean yelled "you're tearing me apart," teachers, politicians, priests and parents were lining up across from comic book publishers, writers, artists, and children at bonfires and Senate hearings decrying the evil that was The Ten-Cent Plague. In what is the third in an informal trilogy about American popular culture at mid-century, Hajdu (Lush Life, Positively Fourth Street) radically revises common notions of popular culture, the generation gap, and the divide between "high" and "low" art - Cody's Books David Hajdu writes a monthly column for The New Republic on music and popular culture. He is a contributor to The Atlantic Monthly, The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, The New York Times Magazine, and Vanity Fair. Mr. Hajdu was the general editor of Entertainment Weekly from 1990 to 1999, editor-at-large for the New York Times Magazine Group from 1985 to 1990, and the editor-in-chief at Video Review from 1980 to 1985. Mr. Hajdu is the author of Lush Life: A Biography of Billy Strayhorn, published in 1996 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux and Positively 4th Street: The Lives and Times of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Mimi Baez Farina and Richard Farina, published in 2001 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Both of his books were named finalists for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Additionally, Mr. Hajdu has been published in the anthologies: O.K.
