VPS.net getting started with the CDN - Part 1

VPS.net getting started with the CDN - Part 1

from me on blip.tv (beta) on July 06, 2009
Duration: 598
I have been testing out the new CDN (Content Delivery Network) service offering from the team at VPS.net . So far , I am really impressed by the speed and page response times at my own (currently testing) site as well as the speed of delivering media files zippy fast. At SupportCasts.com we are going to be migrating our content (CSS, javascripts, media) over to this enhanced delivery method as it will help improve our viewers experience around the world, delivering our content from POP's (Points of Presence ) closer to them. I have created this intro video to help other users out there get to grips with the seemingly daunting task of setting up their CDN account . Part 2 will deal with Flash RTMP streaming and setup with FlowPlayer and one of the numeruos plugins for Wordpress also... that is if y'all like the first video of course ;) The product itself is not yet fully available , judging by the web site at VPS.net but stay tuned to updates on their page. Watch the video provide any feedback or comments on the VPS.net forums or right here on the blog page. A special thanks to Carlos for our numerous email exchanges on CDN :) Enjoy the show

Akamai Debuts New Ad Solutions Service

Akamai Debuts New Ad Solutions Service

from Learn2Discern on November 06, 2008
Duration: 198
Akamai Technologies has landed IAC and Hearst as the first clients for Insight for Publishers, the first product in its new Advertising Decision Solutions line, the company announced Monday. The offering, bolstered by data from the recently acquired acerno, will help advertisers target attractive audience segments. With the new service, Akamai is diversifying its offerings beyond the crowded CDN market. (Silicon Alley Insider ran an interesting piece in September about the growing competition in the CDN industry.) Andy interviewed Mike Afergan, Chief Technology Officer and Senior VP for Advertising Decision Solutions, at last night's market launch of Insight for Publishers. "For a large media company like an IAC, or someone else who has many different properties, what we allow them to do is to gather than information from across all their different properties, bring that together, package it in a way relevant to advertisers, and deliver it in real time," he says. The party took place at the IAC Building in New York, designed by architect Frank Gehry. --Kelsey Blodget, Associate Producer

DoubleClick Co-Founder Finds CDN Success with Progressive Download Only

DoubleClick Co-Founder Finds CDN Success with Progressive Download Only

from Big Cat Rescue on April 29, 2008
Duration: 328
Dwight Merriman and Kevin Ryan are co-founders of DoubleClick, the giant ad serving technology platform sold to a private equity firm in 2005 for $1.1 billion and later sold to Google. The two have been building new businesses including a content delivery network (CDN) called Panther Express. Kevin told Beet.TV that Panther is now the industry's third largest CDN.I caught up with Dwight last week at the Contentinople conference in New York. He explained that his company is provides only progressive downloads, not streaming. Evidently, with big customers like Gawker Media, this scenario is working quite well. -- Andy PlesserPosted on Beet.TV on Wednesday, April 30, 2008http://www.beet.tv/2008/04/doubleclick-co.html

EdgeCast Provides CDN Services at "Half the Price of Akamai," CEO Tells Beet.TV

EdgeCast Provides CDN Services at "Half the Price of Akamai," CEO Tells Beet.TV

from bubblicious on April 29, 2008
Duration: 150
EdgeCast is another of the scrappy upcoming content delivery networks (CDN) which is vying for a piece of the market for the distribution of big files around th Internet. The Los Angeles company has raised $10 million with most coming from Disney's venture fund.In just 9 months, the company has landed over 100 customers. Last week in Manhattan at the Contentinople conference, I caught up with James Segil, CEO of EdgeCast. His company is taking on giant Akamai -- who Jim refers to as legacy operation, much like United Airlines and he likens his company to Jet Blue. Like Jet Blue, EdgeCast has entered the market with low fares. He told me that EdgeCast charges some 50 percent less than Akamai for comparative service.Speaking with Jim, I learned that EdgeCast is the CDN Blip.tv and thus for for Beet.TV videos -- which stream very nicely, thank you."Velocix Takes Drug Dealer Approach"I love this headline from the NewTeeVee's post by Chris Albrecht on the news that U.K.-based Velocix is giving away free CDN services in the hope of getting pubilshers, eh addicted. Om Malik wrote yesterday about Voxel, another start-up that is aiming to take business from Amazon's S3 business.-- Andy PlesserPosted on Beet.TV on Tuesday, April 29, 2008http://www.beet.tv/2008/04/edgecast-provid.html
