Having listened to the cries of needless repetition besmirching what was an otherwise rather impressive debut for a new IP (it's apparently the fastest-growing new gaming franchise in history), Ubisoft is adding quite a bit more depth to the Renaissance Italy-based sequel. The ample amount of historical documentation about the smattering of city-states, infighting merchant families and the corrupt religious figures of the time make for plenty of ties to real-life events, but perhaps none are as promising as the inclusion of Leonardo da Vinci and all his wonderful toys (Game Informer likens him to Bond's gadget buddy Q). Among many of da Vinci's inventions that will feature in the game is his legendary flying machine, which is perhaps more of a glider than anything else, as he'll be kept aloft with warm air currents rising off Ezio's allies during a particular mission. With Venice's network of aquatic channels (yep, there's swimming now) and densely-packed buildings, Ezio's ability to ditch enemies has naturally been magnified, and to help balance that out, Ubisoft has bumped up the types of enemy units, which will grow more aggressive and skilled as the game goes on, including being able to tail you with the same now-infamous parkour moves from the first game. Other enemies will be advanced melee attackers or will poke into hiding spots (which have likewise increased in variety). The increase in variety hasn't just been restricted to the cities and waterways, though; outside the cities, Ubisoft is populating the countryside with more to do, including the ability to string together missions that will take you from Venice to Florence and the more rural areas in between, tied together with a stronger narrative thread. Promises of missions being stacked back-to-back -- about 200 in all -- abound, as do mentions of the different types of missions one can undertake. Because Ubisoft Montreal is being careful to mix things up, they're also claiming that the side missions can essentially be taken on in any order, and stretching from the city into the countryside and back. With all the changes to the scenery and main character (Ezio is a far more affluent and cultured protagonist than Altair was in the first game), it's not really terribly surprising that Ubisoft Montreal also amped up the combat. Weapons can now be ripped from an enemy and used against them, but Ezio doesn't carry a sword with him at all times, meaning improvisation and getting the drop on enemies is more important this time around. To assist in this, he can fight bare-handed if need be, stripping enemies of their weapons or simply opting to whittle down their numbers and make a break for it. All this fighting will lead to Ezio becoming rather notorious in whatever city he's causing a ruckus, and though he can make a break for it (with white sheets indicating key routes of traversal), it's smarter to just undertake missions to lower his notoriety, which will drive down the presence of suspicious guards (though Ezio can now blend in with any crowd rather than just monks if the situation calls for it). Tearing down posters, taking out witnesses or paying them off were all mentioned as viable ways to keep the heat off you .

It is set to release worldwide before March 2010 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3,Microsoft Windows,Nintendo Wii, and PSP platforms. The game is a sequel to the 2007 critically acclaimed video game, Assassin's Creed. Plot While not much is known of the plot yet, it has been confirmed that the player will assume the role of a nobleman and assassin named Ezio Auditore de Firenze. Ezio is a descendant of Altaïr and an ancestor to Desmond, the protagonists from Assassin's Creed. He is shown to have dual assassin's blades and a colorful attire, to fit the era. The game is set to take place in 1476, in renaissance Italy, during the Carnival of Venice. Famous Renaissance figures have been announced to appear in the game, such as famous artist/inventor Leonardo da Vinci (who is said to have invented Ezio's hidden blades), Niccolò Machiavelli, author of The Prince, (who is said will teach Ezio tactics ), and Caterina Sforza. The game will feature both Venice and Florence. Famous architectural marvels will appear, such as Saint Mark's Basilica, the Grand Canal, and the Rialto Bridge. Gameplay The May 2009 GameInformer article revealed that many new features would be added to the game engine. Ezio will be able to use many weapons, but he will only have the hidden blades and throwing knives at all times. Ezio will be given two hidden blades, allowing him to eliminate two enemies at once. New weapons, such as spears, axes, and maces have been revealed as well. In order to obtain the weapons, Ezio must kill a guard wielding the weapon he wants. Ezio will have access to many weapons, but some enemies are only weak to certain weapons. New forms of cover will be introduced, including the ability to hide underneath the water (as long as you have enough oxygen). It will also be possible to kill enemies while hiding, but the guards will have the ability to check haystacks and other areas by stabbing their weapons into them. Ezio will also be able to blend with large crowds. The mission design was thought to be too repetitive, so the developers are adding at least 16 new mission types, so missions don't seem to run together. Ezio will also be aided by famous Renaissance figures, such as Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolò Machiavelli. Caterina Sforza and Lorenzo de' Medici will also make a appearance. Ezio's synchronization bar will fill normally like in the original game, but more major injuries must be treated by street-side doctors. A day and night cycle will also be added. Development On January 22 2009, it was confirmed by Ubisoft that Assassin's Creed II was in production, but no details were revealed. A promotional video was released by ubisoft on April 6 showing a map of italy, some hidden blade designs, and DaVinci's flying machine on a scroll. On the official site after the teaser is viewed a symbol is given to print and show infront of a webcam. Doing this will unlock a picture displayed on the site. 4 of the 5 symbols have been given by Ubisoft, and the other was found by a fan. Later, on April 10, Game Informer magazine released details on the game, as well as pictures of Ezio. There are about 240 team members, some of these members were sent to Italy, traveling through Venice, Florence, Tuscany, and Rome. ScrewAttack also released a video with some of the pictures from the magazine.
