The Tony's have gone two years without a single master of ceremonies, instead working with a lot of different presenters. Interestingly, this will mark Whoopi's first time as emcee of this huge theatre event. Whoopi has hosted the Oscars four times. Patti Lupone and the cast of Gypsy headed into the recording studio last week to lay down tracks for a recording of the current version of the show. The recording will be released in August on Time Life records. The PS Classics label will release the soundtrack to A Catered Affair, the new John Bucchino musical, on May 27th... Performers from Xanadu, In the Heights, South Pacific, Gypsy, Cry Baby, Passing Strange, Sunday in the Park with George, A Catered Affair, Little Mermaid, and Grease performed numbers for the invitation only audience. The concert will air in NY on June 7th on CBS. Check local listings for broadcast times. Kerry Butler recently released her debut record. Composed of Kerry's interpretations of Disney classics, Faith Trust and Pixie Dust is a unique collection of songs. The restaurant, known for it's lovely servers who double as talented actors, singers and dancers, will be featured on GMA tomorrow morning, May 8th. Rent will be ending its run at the Nederlander Theatre on September 7th. However, before the final bow, Rent alumni Will Chase and Eden Espinosa will return to the ensemble cast. http://www.theatermania.com Screen-to-stage adaptations are all the musical rage this season, and the latest is A Catered Affair, now in previews at the Marquis Theater in advance of an April 17 opening. Book writer Harvey Fierstein and composer-lyricist John Bucchino, along with director John Doyle, have reworked the 1956 Bette Davis film (based on a Paddy Chayefsky teleplay) about a working-class couple torn apart over whether to spend their savings on a new taxi or their daughter's big wedding. At a recent meet-the-press event at the world-famous bridal store, Kleinfeld's, TheaterMania spoke with Fierstein -- who also plays "bachelor uncle" Winston -- and co-stars Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Leslie Kritzer, and Matt Cavenaugh about their involvement in this very special project.
