Cancer Bats are a Hardcore punk band hailing from Toronto, Ontario. http://www.cancerbats.com/ Cancer Bats originated in May of 2004 with singer Liam Cormier and guitarist Scott Middleton, former member of Toronto metal band At The Mercy Of Inspiration. The two wanted to form a project that combined their favorite parts of bands like Refused, Black Flag, Led Zeppelin and Down, among others. The lineup was rounded out with the addition of Andrew McCracken on bass and Joel Bath on drums. The four-piece wasted no time writing and recording songs for a self-released demo that saw light in January of 2005. http://www.myspace.com/cancerbats Soon after, Mike Peters replaced Bath on the drums, and the band began playing shows throughout southern Ontario, playing live shows with bands like Billy Talent, Every Time I Die, NORA, Alexisonfire, Haste the Day, It Dies Today, Bane, Comeback Kid, Buried Inside, Attack in Black, Misery Signals and This Is Hell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancer_Bats On June 2, 2006 the band took part in a short interview and then played a free CD release show at The Edge 102.1 (CFNY-FM) and then on the 6th Birthing The Giant was released into major record stores. I sang this song during the opening ceremonies at a Relay for Life for the Canadian Cancer Society. We raised more than $75,000 that weekend. It's still so important that we remember every day - remember whom we love, whom we lost, and what we are fighting for. And always remember to hope, no matter how hard it is. Heather, your mom was a beautiful woman whom you take after. She would have been the best second mom any sister could ask for. Mel and Maeghan, your brother was one of the kindest and most pure-hearted people I've ever known. Renée, your grandfather was a rare soul. He was such gentle and generous man. Darlene, Anthony really knew how to love. I miss his hugs all the time. Sean, your dad was an amazing person. The impression he's left on everyone will be a lasting one.
