On Digital Media, Episode #28

On Digital Media, Episode #28

from On Digital Media on March 21, 2007
Duration: 0
The whole crew on one show! An ODM first! In this episode, John Federico, Chia-Lin Simmons, Ken Gellman and Steve Hatch are all in Studio 1A. PLUG: Come see us at Podcamp NYC! Ken s iPod plays in the snow and survives Motorola rumored to buy Palm. John has moved on from his Palm to a Moto Q: eerie coincidence? Nokia may also be a suitor. We all think that the Palm 700W series has the best Windows Mobile implentation out there. Steve likes his Cingular 8125. Is a Palm acquisition in anticipation of the impending competition from Apple s iPhone? Grand Central offers a Web 2.0 version of one-number services. John s not impressed: he s had an account from Webley Systems since 1996. (Now owned by Parus Holdings.) 78% of consumers would accept offers on their mobile phones if you paid them or provided some other incentive for doing so. Music sales still on the decline, even with the huge boom in online music sales. The radio promotion machine is all but dead. File sharing, Last.fm and Pandora are the new promotion machines. BumRushTheCharts.com Amazon thinks there s a big opportunity in focusing on the price-insensitive classical music lover and is expanding their music catalog accordingly. Steve and John own 30+ versions of the jazz standard My Funny Valentine . At SXSW, David Byrne mentioned that he thinks the music industry needs to give up its addiction to recorded music revenues and get more involved in live performances and other forms of music-related media. Google is getting into the Cost-Per-Action marketing business. Executives from ValueClick gasp and briefly, so do their investors. We think this could be a good way to combat click fraud. Our wine selection was a 2004 Cabernet from Trinchero Family Vineyards and a 2004 Cabernet from Juan Gil. Our closing music is Democracy from Alexander Blu. Answer To Last Week's Trivia Question: Q: This single debuted on Billboardâs Hot 100 on April 19, 1975 and catapulted from #98 to #1 in nine weeks, remaining in the top position for four weeks. The artist also recorded the song in Spanish, and it was released as a single later that year. It also charted, peaking at #49 on the Billboard pop charts that same year, making it the first #1 single ever to chart simultaneously in different languages by the same artist. What was the song and who was the artist? A: This is related to last weeks trivia question. The answer is Love Will Keep Us Together by Daryl Dragon and Toni Tenille, better known as The Captain And Tenille. The only correct answer was from Brian Cowie, who won last week's contest! Kudos to Brian, but no prize award this week. See you next week!
