Harvey Frommer, REMEMBERING YANKEE STADIUM author: Mr. Media Interview
from Mr. Media October 01, 2008
Book cover via AmazonThere are two memories of Yankee Stadium that I hold dear. The first dates back to 1967. I was six years old and my grandfather took me to the House That Ruth Built for the first time to see my idol, Mickey Mantle. There are two things I remember about that night: The Mick hit a home run but I was mostly scared to death being way up high in the upper deck. My second memory is of the last time I was at the stadium, June 16, 1997. My wife ordered tickets for us to see the first ever interleague game between the Yankees and their crosstown rival, the Mets. It was the first game that would ever count between the two teams. We flew up from Florida just for the game. By then, I was more a Mets fan than a Yankees fan and, even more, a Tampa Bay Rays fan. It was as electric an atmosphere as I could imagine any World Series game might offer. But my recollections are a drop in the bucket compared with the ones collected by Harvey Frommer in his new coffee table book, Remembering Yankee Stadium. It is packed not just with oral histories collected from some of the greatest Yankees players, managers, sports writers and fans, but is also filled with awesome photos from decades of historic moments. Science of Sports: Olympic Smog, Tour de France Doping and the Red Sox Scoreboard
from The Popular Mechanics Show July 31, 2008
With the opening ceremony just days away, can Beijing clean up its air in time for healthy Olympic competition? We sit down with George Thurston--a professor of environmental medicine at NYU, a leading expert on airborne pollutants and a former athlete himself--to find out why every athlete may be in danger from the physiological effects of smog, and why neither USOC-supplied masks nor China's emergency plans can stop them. Plus, Paul Strauss explains how independent tests could finally rid pro cycling of banned substances, and the low-tech scorekeeper for the Boston Red Sox takes us behind the Green Monster at baseball's trading deadline.

Day Game - Letus EX1 Panning Time Lapse - Fenway Park
from Vimeo / Recent Public Videos April 25, 2008
Day Game - Letus EX1 Panning Time Lapse - Fenway Park from Tom Guilmette on Vimeo. I decided that I would do another time lapse at Fenway Park from the same spot I did my first panning time lapse. This time, I had fixed my back focus on the Letus Extreme and it was a day game. The first thing I did was to secure the tripod to the railing in the camera platform. It was very windy. The highest gusts I had ever experienced while shooting in the new section occurred on this day. The camera took a few hits from wind blasts. The second thing I had learned from past experience was that auto white trace was not good for six hour time lapses, especially at night. The color temperature changed a few times during the day and into the night. I now set the preset white balance on the camera to a happy medium. In this case, I was shooting during the daytime hours, so I set the white balance to 5200 K. I used my Celestron Nexstar 114GT telescope motorized pan head for the very slow pans. This system worked really well and I had modified it so that I could mount my Sony PMW-EX1 XDCAM to it with the Letus rail system. I really, really, really wanted a day with puffy white clouds. I hoped for it and framed the time lapse accordingly. As you will see, I only had a few clouds in the sky during the first hour of the time lapse. The rest of the day was under completely blue skies. I had hoped to capture dramatic cloud movement during the elapsed time. Like I said before, I will try again later... One other obstacle I ran into was a problem with my Letus Extreme. I had replaced the battery for the spinning motor that vibrated the ground glass inside the contraption. The problem was, the motor would not start. I had to fix this by opening up the Letus and manually starting the motor with my finger. I guess it had gotten slightly “gummed up” and need some help to get moving. I hope this does not become problematic in the future. This time lapse was set from 10:30am to 4:30pm eastern time. The total elapsed time was about six hours. Take a look at my blog for more information on how I set this system up and fixed the motor on the Letus. TRT: 1:17 seconds I have a detailed explanation with pictures of this setup on my blog. Check it out now... Website: http://www.tomguilmette.com Cast: Tom Guilmette

MITCHELL REPORT BARRY BONDS ROGER CLEMENS ANDY PETTITTE | STEROIDS PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS IN BASEBALL|IPOD/IPHONE/WMV/ZUNE VIDEO EDITIONS
from Binside TV January 06, 2008
Marc Ecko recently purchased Barry Bonds 756 record breaking homerun ball and built a website around it for people to vote and decide what to actually do with it. So, did the homerun king Barry Bonds knowingly use steroids? We're on the red carpet of the Martin Luther King Dream Concert with singer/rapper Wyclef Jean and Marc Ecko as they weigh in on the ball's fate. Wyclef Jean's album Carnival Vol. II Memoirs of an Immigrant is in stores now. DOWNLOAD IPOD VIDEO/IPHONE EDITION DOWNLOAD WINDOWS MEDIA EDITION THE MITCHELL REPORT Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte were among 85 players named by former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell's investigation called The Mitchell Report into steroids and performance-enhancing drugs. Pettitte has admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs to heal a sports related injury. If what I did was an error in judgment on my part, I apologize, Pettitte said in a statement released by his agent. I accept responsibility for those two days. Baseball great Roger has vehemently denied ever using steriods. Both Clemens and his former trainer, Brian McNamee were asked to appear before a congressional committee hearing scheduled for Jan. 16, along with Andy Pettitte, Chuck Knoblauch and former Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski. The Houston Chron posted the following 10 Questions for Roger Clemens after his recent interview with Mike Wallace on 60 minutes. 10 Questions for Clemens Congress can ask the questions Wallace should have asked. For instance, where did you obtain lidocaine? Here are 10 more: 1. If a doctor prescribed lidocaine, why didn't a doctor do the injections? 2. Do you think it wise to have your trainer, Brian McNamee, do injections into your joints that a doctor or someone under the supervision of a doctor typically does? 3. Did you ask Jose Canseco about the benefits of steroids? 4. Why do you think Brian McNamee would risk jail time to lie about you? 5. Why do you think Brian McNamee told the truth about Andy Pettitte but lied about you? 6. Did you discuss the use of steroids and human growth hormone with Pettitte? 7. Do you think there's a chance McNamee injected you with banned substances and that you simply didn't know about it? 8. Why didn't you mention the injections in your previous denials? 9. You previously said: I'm going to find anything I can that'll make me stronger ... , but I'm going to depend on physicians to tell me what's OK. If you were willing to try anything, why wouldn't you try performance-enhancing drugs? 10. Do you consider the use of steroids and human growth hormone to be cheating? [SOURCE]

Lowell, Sox hold off Rockies and win Series
from Where's the Outrage? October 29, 2007
There has been so much written about the World Series already, I really don t have much to add. The Boston Red Sox were clearly the best team. They out pitched, out hit, out ran and out coached the Rockies. boston red sox, colorado rockies, major league baseball, sports, World Series

World Series Update
from Where's the Outrage? October 27, 2007
The Colorado Rockies were down 6 to nothing. They get 2 runs in the 6th. Holliday just got 3 runs in the 7th. The Boston Red Sox are only up 6 - 5 in Colorado. Now, this is great baseball. Update: The Boston Red Sox are simply playing great team baseball. Their line up is great. There doesn t appear to be any holes. They are getting solid pitching. Rookies Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia were 7 for 10. If they go 7 for 10 it is impossible to beat the Red Sox. The Red Sox like a Champion responded to the Rockies closing the score to 6 - 5 by getting 3 runs in the 8th. This was a great game if you are a Sox fan. If you are a Rockies fan, the game showed that Colorado can hit but the pitching is questionable. Boston should close this one out in 4 or 5 games. They are playing with great confidence. The Rockies are scratching their heads trying to figure out how to get a lead and keep it. boston red sox, colorado rockies, major league baseball, sports, World Series

Vloggercon: Introducing Randy Man Of "Live From Lowell"
from vloggercon.blip.tv (beta) June 16, 2006
Being a newbie to Vloggercon and vlogging in general, I didn't know all the players. So I had no idea that my table mate -- Randy Man -- was the host of "Live on Lowell" until I teased him about his preferred attire: a New England Patriots jersey and a Boston Red Sox hat. Both raise the ire of any good Oakland Athletics or Oakland A's fan. Randy told me how he thinks the New England Patriots are going to do -- 5 wins, 11 losses -- and that the Red Sox will continue to win, but lose to the Yankees.
