A short episode after a very long day, with some insight into the motivation of podcasters who choose to cover such a large event, and the realtionship to their regular listeners. We had a dinner with Hewlett-Packard and other bloggers that lasted until around eleven, and then returned to the Bloghaus to edit and push regular content and backchannel. We had at least seven episodes for the backchannel, and even with minimal transcoding from.avi to .mov, the upload, posting and publishing of each episode took close to half an hour. At 2:00am, the Bloghaus closed, and we are on the way back to the MonteCarlo.

With all of the fun and excitement of covering CES as a podcaster, there is a point where fatigue, noise, confusion and sleep deprivation all conspire to push the limit of physical endurance. This video shows one of the TPN team members hitting that limit, and also presents some insight into what motivates and keeps a podcaster doing this sort of coverage year after year.

With Paul back on the mend, we are finally beginning to get up to planned strength for the show. We know that with two events (Hewlett Packard and the Blogger reception at the Atomic Museum) we are going to be spread thin. Plus, as the backlog of videos - both A reel and backchannel start to grow, we are headed for a grueling day and night.The luxury of elevators, bus rides, cabs and aisles without queues is going to disappear. Attendees realize that the rush and novelty of the first day is history, and that there is business to be done and very little time in which to get it completed.

With all the material gathered during an incredibly productive session at the Showstopper's Digital Experience event, we return to the Bloghaus with multiple GB of information for both the primary feed and backchannel. The first task was interleaving the backchannel info from the two cameras that we were using (the Orange Flip Cam and Black Flip Cam), putting on temporary filenames and converting, without titles or edits from .avi to heavily compressed .mp4 . The Xilisoft utility did a great job, allowing batch processing of the clips and the Bloghaus provided the bandwidth. Little did we know the trouble that was going to ensue from poor filename conventions during the weeks after CES. While rendering the video, we had a chance to catch up with Rob Greenlee, one of the founders of TPN, who is now at Microsoft as the Podcast Business Development Manager - and learn more about the Zune. Back at the hotel at almost two in the morning, we both realize that with the start of the show, an "easy" day like today was going to be a pleasant memory.

The final hours of Day 1 of CES. I was able to click the lights off at 3:00AM, and slept through the piledrivers and construction until that iPhone alarm went off.

You asked what the best party is at CES. We looked around, and while we may be biased, The Bloghaus topped our list. Good company and good bandwidth, what more could you want?
