The Mother of All Bailouts Ron Paul talks about the bailout out of the housing industry and how it really just destroys the dollar and adds enormously to the debt. Also, slipped into the bill, was the stipulation that ALL credit card transactions must now be reported to the IRS. digg http://digg.com/politics/Ron_Paul_on_the_Mother_of_All_Bailouts (buried after 1200 diggs!) digg 2 http://digg.com/world_news/YOU_JUST_GOT_SCREWED_and_Nobody_Will_tell_you_URGENT

Thursday 7:50 Inflation data for June quarter
from RN Breakfast-individual stories July 23, 2008
The inflation data for the June quarter came out yesterday and it was an ugly set of numbers. The Consumer Price Index rose to a near 17 year high of 4.5 per cent on an annual basis, well above the Reserve Bank's comfort zone. But this time economists are saying this jump in inflation won't necessarily trigger another rate rise from the RBA.

Indymac, Fannie, Freddie and You - July 17, 2008
from Mortgages Made Simple with Rick Gundzik July 17, 2008
This week brought the collapse of Indymac Bank. Their collapse wreaked havoc in the financial markets, but it can have a greater effect on individual depositor's stress levels. This could be witnessed in the unnecessary bank run on Indymac this week. Many people do not realize they should not keep more than $100,000 in any bank. Insurance only covers up to $100,000 in deposits, any amount over that is negotiable to as low as 50 cents on the dollar. But for those who have a smaller amount on deposit, don't worry, you will get every penny back. We also discuss Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's current troubles and why they are so important to the housing market. Listen to "Indymac, Fannie, Freddie and You?" FAP838: Student loans and bank failures
from Financial Aid Podcast Daily Free Internet Radio On Demand July 14, 2008
Image via Wikipedia FAP838: Student loans and bank failures Listen now: Student Financial Aid News + IndyMac Bank failed over the weekend, taken over by the FDIC. + NASFAA: After rushing to enact a law that makes it easier for students to obtain more federal student loans, Congressional leaders and lobbyists for for-profit colleges may now be close to a deal to help those colleges avoid an unintended result of that new law, The Chronicle of Higher Education reports. The parties are seeking a measure to keep the colleges from running afoul of the requirement that at least 10 percent of their revenue comes from nonfederal sources. The colleges have been concerned about the requirement, known as the 90-10 rule, ever since Congress this past spring raised the limits on the amounts students may borrow under federal loan programs. One option under discussion would allow the colleges to temporarily treat the $2,000 of newly allowed loan funds as part of their 10 percent. + Bloomberg via NASFAA: Five months after the collapse of the $330 billion auction-rate securities market, bonds backed by student loans show no signs of recovering, Bloomberg News reports. The $85 billion of auction-rate securities sold by state agencies and private lenders to finance student loans are emerging as the most toxic type since Wall Street dealers abandoned the auction-rate market in February amid worries about the financial health of the bond insurers who guaranteed the debt. The collapse of the auction-rate market compounded the financial problems for lenders after Congress last year cut the subsidies it makes to those who sell bonds backed by federally guaranteed loans. + U Ohio: Ohio Governor Ted Strickland today signed an executive order establishing The Ohio GI Promise, which changes Ohio’s residence requirements to allow all veterans of the U.S. Armed Services, their spouses, and dependents who choose to attend Ohio colleges and universities to do so at in-state tuition rates. Housing Relief Bill, Will it help You - July 10, 2008
from Mortgages Made Simple with Rick Gundzik July 10, 2008
The House of Representatives recently passed the Housing Relief Bill. This latest economic stimulus type Bill which must still pass the Senate has the following three goals: 1. Help distressed homeowners, 2. Tax credit for First time homebuyers and 3. Permanently increase Fannie Mae loan limits to $625,000. The most shocking provision of the Bill requires lenders to reduce a borrower's loan balance to 85% of the home's appraised value. The distressed borrower will then be able to refinance to an FHA loan. The tax credit for first time homebuyers will be $8,000. However, it will only be eligible for homes purchased from April 2008 until April 1, 2009. And finally, it will increase loan limits to $625,000 to try and keep the high cost states humming along.
