nnBALCONYTV LONDON 02/07/2009 LAYLA with I SAID YES From humble beginnings busking on a bridge over the River Thames and first appearing on stage in an art college bar in Scotland's capital (November 2007), the five fresh-faced members of 'i said yes' have, since then, taken their upbeat pop folk music to many other corners of the UK, playing at various venues in London, Oxford, Bristol and at various festivals last summer. The last year or so has seen 'i said yes' being played on XFM and 6music, featured on the XFM 'new music rising' podcast and being included in the line-up's of festivals such as Offset, Green Man Fayre and Hidden Festival. 'i said yes' recently spent new year in Joe Robertson's attic in Edinburgh, recording three new songs which you can listen to above. BALCONYTV LONDON 22/06/2009 LAYLA with MARVIN B NAYLOR In Marvin's words... ' I was born in England, but spent my childhood in Canada. I finally managed to escape upon turning 21 and was in a group signed to Polydor in the late 1980s (3 singles then dropped). However, I gained some valuable studio knowledge and writing/arrangement experience during that time.(I like to think so, anyway). Even then, I was using the 12 string guitar (mainly electric)as a lead instrument, but had yet to develop the picking technique. The songwriting is quite a new venture for me and although it's quite time consuming doing it all by myself (apart from the invaluable help given to me by Gary Brady at Escapade Studio), I prefer the freedom and space I get from the isolation involved.
