nnFoursquare Labs Inc., a New York mobile social networking startup whose $1.35 million first-round financing in September was the most competitive in recent memory, may be the next big hit on the Internet, say many tech entrepreneurs and investors. But beyond buzz, what is Foursquare, how does it plan to make money, and why did it choose O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures and Union Square Ventures from among the many investors clamoring to back it? To find out, The Deal asked Foursquare CEO Dennis Crowley, the former co-founder of Dodgeball, which Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) bought and subsequently deadpooled, for a behind-the-scenes tour. Watch the video below or download it on iTunes. - Mary Kathleen Flynn Special thanks to Dennis Crowley, Naveen Selvadurai, Harry Heymann and Nathan Folkman from Foursquare and to the folks at The Scratcher. Boxee CEO talks Net Neutrality

Net neutrality has seen some flareups this year, especially with wireless providers restricting the usage of specific applications on their networks like Skype and Slingbox. Now, after the FCC Chairman s speech, Boxee CEO Avner Ronen has weighed in on the debate. Boxee, a sort-of video browser which aims to take any video content on the public internet and bring it to the living room, could be one of the companies most affected by net neutrality, as often times bit-pipe providers like cable and phone companies offer video services that might compete with Boxee. Check the video to see his take, and where he sees the limit is between keeping an open internet, and crossing the regulatory line. http://techvi.com/shows/2009/09/boxee-ceo-talks-net-neutrality/ Distributed by Tubemogul.

"It's not like we're sitting around at Spark, saying, 'We'd love to find a company that's building a widget for Facebook'. We're looking for something really different." Sabet, who is 40, points out that entrepreneurs in their 20s and early 30s have a competitive advantage: They have never known a world without the Internet. About Spark portfolio company founders David Karp (Tumblr Inc.), Charles Forman (OMGPOP, previously known as Iminlikewithyou) and Evan Williams (Twitter Inc.), Sabet says, "They grew up on the Internet. They're Net natives. When they think about things, they have an instinct that is unique compared with entrepreneurs who are 10, 15, 20 years older." Incidentally, in the video Sabet mentions having worked at Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) in the past. Sabet jointed the company as part of the team that created WebTV Networks, which Microsoft bought for $425 million in August of 1997. Click here to see Part 1 of our chat with Sabet, in which he talks about co-investing with Union Square and others.
