Ford's new MAV (Multi Activity Vehicle) concept showcases how the company will move its design language on beyond today's era of European 'Kinetic design' cars, such as the Fiesta and Mondeo. This car's significant because it is likely to signal a way forward for the looks of the next Ford C-max, and ultimately, the Focus - both of which are likely to head to North America.

Ford had a big stand in Geneva 2009 - and chose to show of the pure battery electric version of the Ford Transit Connect (in Tourneo people carrier format) on its stand. Round the corner, its supply partner - Magna Steyr - had stripped away the shiny metal to show the electric vehicle chassis platform that could underpin some of Ford's electric vehicle. Clearly, the blue oval is betting big on a bright electric future...

Nissan are an intriguing company. One half of the Renault-Nissan alliance, a brand portfolio that includes Infiniti - who are successful in the US but until recently didn't exist elsewhere, and whose own range spans from the Micra Euro-mini, through the Cube and right up the monster GT-R. This Qazana concept, could signal a complete new direction for Nissan's next B-segment car. Ultimately, if the company is really brave, it's production version might replace the B-segment Micra altogether. Something Nissan has history of - launching the Qashquai crossover as replacement for the c-segment Almera hatch.Whatever, this concept was one of the stars of Geneva. It's challenging in some respects, but has plenty of design details to catch the eye.
