Burma Needs Our Help

Burma Needs Our Help

from recent posts tagged democracy - blip.tv (beta) on October 21, 2009

"Than Shwes regime has destroyed over 3,300 ethnic minority villages in eastern Burma alone, recruited tens of thousands of child soldiers, forced up to 2 million people to flee their homes as refugees and internally displaced, and used rape as a weapon of war against the women of Burma. These abuses continue today." from http://uscampaignforburma.org/. I visited Burma a few months ago and these are some of the photos from my trip. Words cannot express how deeply I was moved by the kindness and spirit of the lovely people there who live under one of the most oppressive regimes in the world that has kept them so very poor. They dream of democracy and freedom and for a better future. I promised I would do what I could to help in what little way I can. I met group of people on their way to a secret meeting in Rangoon to fight for freedom and democracy. Before they got off the bus one man turned to me, smiled and said, "Change is coming!" The people of Burma look to the United States, to Obama and to us to end their suffering. The sanctions have just made everything worse and impoverished them even more. I urge you to learn more about what you can do for Burma here: http://uscampaignforburma.org/ here http://www.freeburmacoalition.org or here: http://www.freeburmarangers.org

http://eomega.org/omega/womensinstitute/ We are creating a dynamic new component of Omega, the Women's Institute, dedicated to cultivating women's wisdom and developing a new power paradigm that honors the regenerative, cooperative, and healing qualities of the feminine. The Women's Institute is being founded upon the following premises: * Feminine wisdom has been devalued in the dominant culture to the detriment of all people. Supporting a balanced power paradigm that is neither feminine nor masculine, but a healthy blend of both, will help create a more peaceful and just world that honors our interdependence with each other and the Earth itself. * The strengthening of women to manifest their authentic wisdom can help transform the current power paradigm that no longer serves the vast majority of human beings or the planet itself. * Power is an infinite and neutral energy that can grow through positive, synergistic interaction, interdependence, and the sharing of resources; it has unlimited potential for serving the greater good. * Women who are grounded in their authentic wisdom and who have the awareness, knowledge, and skills to responsibly acquire, manage, and promote power, can transform the world for the better. * Rigid roles and behavioral expectations for women and men can damage both genders. By healing and promoting feminine wisdom in women and girls as well as in men and boys, all of society benefits. Join an ever-expanding community of people who inspire and support each other to new heights of creativity and leadership, and new depths of feeling and understanding. 0 views | 0 comments Click here to watch the video (04:08) Submitted By: OmegaInstitute Tags: Omega Institute Jody Williams Aung San Suu Kyi Burma Darfur Women's Issues Genocide Categories: News & Events

VENERABLE SAYADAW U UTTARA CALLS FOR WORLD LEADERS

VENERABLE SAYADAW U UTTARA CALLS FOR WORLD LEADERS

from Favorites of bdcburma on February 07, 2009
Duration: 173
Venerable Sayadaw U Uttara is the prominent Buddhist Monk Leader. He calls for the world citizens and world leaders to work harder to realise the mandates given by Aung San Suu Kyi and National League for Democracy (NLD) which won the 1990 election overwhelmingly. U Uttara highlighted the importance of four main principles demanded by Aung San Suu Kyi and National League for Democracy (NLD), on February 2, 2009, when they met with the visiting UN envoy, i.e. * to put more pressure on the military regime to release all political prisoners including Aung San Suu Kyi immediately and unconditionally * to review on the constitution which is designed to legitimize military rule in Burma and adopted unilaterally in 2008 * to recognize the 1990 election result in which Aung San Suu Kyi's party won landslide victory * to allow to convene the people's parliament based on 1990 election result These would be the minimum terms needed to be fulfilled before NLD could have a dialogue with the Burmese military rulers, they reaffirmed. They are the mandates given by our leaders and it is our duty to realise them, he added.
