Bill Arnett and his son Matt have amassed one of the largest collections of vernacular African-American art in the world. Featuring works from artists like Thornton Dail, Purvis Young and Lonnie Holley, the Arnetts are committed to the further study and advocacy of this vibrant but widely overlooked aspect of American visual art. Part I includes a virtually uncut interview with the controversial Bill Arnett, as he articulately explores the cultural implications of this work.

Deriving much of his imagery from the banality of Heavy Metal clich , the main piece for Not Yet Titled at Team Gallery is Zodiac a ghostly recreation in cast salt of the motorcycle his friend Steve Parrino drove to his death.Across town in Chelsea we slip in to see Jessica Stockholder s Sail Cloth Tears at Mitchell-Innes & Nash. Stockholder constructs gerrymandered tableaus of brightly colored everyday objects combined with strokes of rich pigment to bring the language of painting into a three dimensional space. The works reflect not only an artistic sensibility but a knowing appreciation for the industrial cheerfulness of consumer products.

James Kalm schleps through slush and snow to bring viewers a glimpse of the closing party for Ray Rapp s I Spy . As a pioneer of digital video assemblage, Rapp has established himself in the forefront of the fast changing world of video/New Media. His tinkerer s talent and innovative use of design, color and technology have allowed him to create unique works inhabiting a realm somewhere between TV and Conceptual sculpture. Featuring an extended interview with Ray Rapp.

Speaking at a meeting hosted by Alderman Charles Quincy Troupe Wednesday in north St. Louis, freshman alderman Marlene Davis fired off at legislators that voted in favor of the Distressed Areas Land Assemblage Tax Credit (three of the four northside state reps and both state senators supported it).
