You know, it s funny that people would underestimate a woman from rural Idaho who settled in Alaska. Not sure if anyone checked the memo but Alaska is a pretty harsh environment. As such it attracts a type of person that is tough, self-reliant and unafraid to take the tough shots when they re dished out. Not only that but they underestimated the appeal and down to earth nature of this woman. Last night she made her debut and she hit the ball out of the park her first time up to the plate. What other person could deliver the tough jabs at Obama and Biden with a smile, a joke, and a nature that is instantly disarming? Suddenly the Obama camp had to run for cover it was easy for them to make Hillary look cold and disconnected, that playbook is not going to work on Palin so they re going to have to go back to the drawing board. In fact they ve already stumbled several times. How on earth can you compare being a community organizer to being a mayor or the governor of a state? No candidate on either slate has executive experience aside from Palin. They ve tried to make Alaska look like a small insignificant state that shouldn t be hard for anyone to run. I guess that would be true if it didn t border with two other countries she s had to deal with and provides an enormous amount of raw material backbone to the US economy. Oh, did we also mention it s the largest state? I guess the Dem mudslinging machine was asleep in geography class and thought that Alaska was to scale on all the little textbook maps. Alaska may be small in population but it is immense on importance to the US. After that you had Alan Colmes and the morons at Daily Kos questioning Palin getting proper prenatal care during her last pregnancy. Implying that somehow something to do with giving birth to a child with Down Syndrome. They might want to do a little bit of homework next time they try something like that since Down Syndrome is a genetic abnormality and has absolutely nothing whatever to do with quality of prenatal care. Colmes found out about his error and removed the posting but through the magic of Google caching it lives on. I don t know, maybe Alan should have just stuck with the party line that Palin should have exercised her reproductive rights and aborted the pregnancy as over 90% of mothers who receive a positive Down Syndrome prenatal screening do. You know, make it easier on herself and the world for not having to deal with a disabled child like Chris Burke. This kind of nonsense is the harshest slap in the face to all of us who are parents of disabled children. To insinuate and to outright lay it out there that somehow she is at fault and a bad parent that caused her child s disability or there are increased risks of Down Syndrome to children of mothers over forty and that she shouldn t have even conceived is beyond the pale. Keep writing this trash fellas, Sarah will be sworn in as vice president come January. I must admit, when she was announced I was concerned that McCain was simply pandering to Hillary voters trying to come up with a woman to reach out to the rightfully disillusioned Hillary backers. I was concerned she wouldn t be up to the task. One speech went a long way but looking at this woman s background has done more for me to silence those notions out. She is instantly disarming and appealing, clearly attractive but also feisty and tenacious (the hockey mom vs. pit bull joke was classic). It was energy the GOP convention that has been absent since The Great Communicator bid us all goodbye. So it s back to the drawing board for the dirty tricks gang working for Obama. I don t think the blatant US attack did so hot, in fact I think you poured gas on the fire. It s going to be a long two months for you guys.

A day following Episode I of learning spaces, we rejoin the commmunity to srceen footage of a weekend in March of 2008. In this program [Episode II] we find Antioch students, staff, faculty, union workers, villagers of Yellow Springs, Ohio and other supporters staged against the backdrop formed by the impoosing facade of the new Antioch University McGregor program known as 'Campus West' ( a mere mile from the amin college campus). The college community chose to use thiis location to their platform to express commitment to the undergraduate programs at the main college campus, especiallly when those programs provide the basis for Antioch's reputation as a leader in insisting on social justice and pedegogical experimentation in liberal arts higher education.

The video and article Antioch Confidential examines the closed control and destabilization of Antioch College by Antioch University. Antioch Confidential documents the damage to educational processes when leadership is mistakenly identified as control, and courage is confused with command. The events taking place at Antioch College are a case study of recent trends in higher education today. This is a look at the lighter-side of Steve Coley, Larry Johnson, and Ronn Carter back in 1985. This marketing music video (for some reason) worked good to land High School Proms (believe it or not). I think it worked because we were the first to produce a video to show our work. This video worked 100% of the time to promote our (then) BAMM-DJ company. Your watching part ONE. The locations for this music video: Opening shot, leaving a random house up the street from the Ugly Duck. Arriving at our studio--then the Ugly Duck, now Prevots. Inside the studio took place at the Terrace, which was the most popular hang out of the day in Concord. Dance party was shot at an actually event inside the Antioch Fair Grounds (or Contra Costa County Fair). For the record, we had the largest DJ set-up, as far as we knew, and in retrospect to the late 1980's it actually looked good at the time. There were always two DJ's at every event, probably just to lug around all of this massive equipment. Yes, we know that DJ's today only carry with them an MP3 player and two small speakers and charge 5X what we charged, however we had talent, the sweetest sounding pure audio system anywhere, we had bass in reserve, and we regularly visited our local Record stores to PURCHASE our own albums. The equipment consisted of 8-18 inch bass speakers powered by 2,000 watts, 4-10 inch 400 watt horns, tweeters to boot, 2 Technics turntables, 4 anti-skip CD players, cassette tape, and YES a COMPUTER!! We were probably the first DJ's to use a computer to search for requests. And a pat on the back for our extra effort by bringing along and mixing MUSIC VIDEO's into our performance. Our walls are alive... they were alive... until the antioch administration unleashed a campaign to destroy all that Antioch College is. They found some "fire code" suddenly and wiped our walls clean. Recently, they found some "regulations" and got rid of our paid positions for the Student Independent Group Coordinators... Hmm... Then they destroyed our STOOP! where we hang out everyday and have community... the list continues... much of this has happened in the last few years as they are "renewing" antioch. Yeah, so basically this administration is making Antioch shit. Don't believe anything they say. If you come to this school, come here for the people. . for the professors. . . and come here to fight the admin and demand that you get the Antioch they promised you and not the "cleaned up" renewed yuppy liberal bullshit.

a Brief tour of Community Government office. Definately not a tour of CG altogether, just the office. CG is complex and intricately beautiful. This could not be summed up in video blog image, it would infact require film and a full-length feature. Anyways, enjoy this brief tour with our events manager, Dylan.

This is a video of a performance by Fae. It was an audition peice that I worked on. I produced the media that is projected in the background, as well as the facial animation played from the other projector, which, for the peformance broke, and then we just played it off the laptop. Anyways, here is a clip of the final performance.

This is a video that I made while trying something completely new. I wanted to make something unconventional. I wanted to do it wrong. I wanted bad handwriting, I wanted mistakes. I've struggled in the past by judging my art by professional standards. This is a self-portrait that I made for my video 1 class this past spring 06 term at Antioch College. It's what I do when I'm procrastinating, or just messing around in-between projects. It shows inner conflict between patterns, rhythms, and life in general.

This is Saturday Night Vegan Cuisine. A weekly collaborative cooking project at Antioch College. We put together meals from scratch, anything w/out animal products. Building collective team skills is mostly the point...but, we get some really good food also.
