Everyone has their own tricks and tips when it comes to keeping mosquitoes away, but do they really work? News 2's Michele Krumm finds out if some of those tips are Fact or Fiction.

A new kind of mosquito is invading our area and can carry West Nile. There may even be a few in your backyard right now.

Summer and rainy weather mean lots of things - crops growing, gardens filling in, and mosquitoes reproducing like crazy. And it's that last item that has the North Dakota Department of Health concerned. The department is getting set to test humans, hoses, and birds for the deadly West Nile Virus. Three people died in the state last year because of the disease. The virus was also found in ten birds and four horses in North Dakota. West Nile is carried by mosquitoes and transferred to birds and horses, and, in some cases, humans. Health Department officials say most people who become infected experience only mild symptoms, but those with other health problems - can suffer severe problems and even death. Your best defense is to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds around your home - and make sure you wear insect repellent when you're outside.
