Andrew Baron, founder of Rocketboom came by the Beet.TV studios earlier today for a debrief about the just announced syndication deal and its implications for his company. Andrew told me that the guaranteed revenue from syndication will provide the resources to increase production by as much as double. He doesn't plan new shows, only an expansion of Rocketboom which has five episodes a week.He thinks the distribution deal will get Rockeboom broad attention on Playstations, mobile devices and on television.Moreover, for Andrew and his crew, the deal with Sony establishes the viability of the business of Rocketboom and provides value for potential investors. In this clip, he speaks about the challenges in making a profitable Web video business. He says that starting the show when he did, he was early. Ever the optimist, he says that the fledgling business of Web video production and new networks like Revision3, Federated Media and Blip.tv will become real businesses in 12 month. He says serious producers can enter the field now with a strong focus and low overhead. Amen. Andrew Baron is best known as the creator and producer of the popular daily news show, Rocketboom. With a BA in Philosophy and MFA in Design and Technology, Baron has recently taught graduate and undergraduate classes at Parsons in New York City. Previously, Baron directed tech classes at MIT, was co-creator and owner of Movements Gallery on Austin's 6th St, played in numerous bands including Julia Set and created basic and machine language BBS programs for the TRS80 and TI99/4A, saved as audio signals on cassette tapes and phreaked at 110 baud with 5 digit codes. Andrew Baron, the visionary creator of Rocketboom, says that publishers who are solely focused on inserting advertising into Flash video files will reach only a fraction of the viewers of the programs who will watch downloaded files, which are not Flash.Andrew says just a small percentage of Rocketboom viewers watch the show in Flash. To get advertising into downloadable video, he is manually "baking" advertising into files. This is one solution, but an automated way to insert ads into downloadable media seems like a more manageable approach.We reported earlier this week about Podaddies as one of the emerging companies to manage ad insertion into downloadable media. Considering big trends in online advertising fro 2008, getting ads into downloaded videos is going to be big.
