We went to the Connecticut State Capitol yesterday to get the scoop on the efforts to protect religious freedom in the face of the impending vote on the same-sex 'marriage' bill and Peter Wolfgang of the Family Institute of CT (FIC) generously gave the Roving Reporter and interview. As predicted, the bill passed the Senate and the House but not before having some important amendments attached that at least partially protect foundational liberties thanks to the action of FIC, the Knights of Columbus, the National Organization for Marriage and the 20,000 Connecticut citizens who called their legislators. The Hartford Currant has a full story of some of the secular points but as Peter Wolfgang points out in one of the FIC's emails: Make no mistake: The amendment is not perfect and SB 899 itself is the result of an illegitimate court ruling, not the will of the people. ... An FIC-supported amendment to require parents be notified before gay-friendly curricula are taught in schools and be allowed to opt out was defeated in the Senate and the House. Watch for more information on that vote and what you can do about it.
