Colour Surround
from YouTube :: Tag // christmas July 19, 2008
Colour Surround: PiN- Vocals, Guitar, keys Josh- Bass Butch- Vibes Record Label: Overtone Records How the Colours Began to Surround... There isn't much to this story in all honesty. A young lad was born in the boroughs of Polonia, moved to the communist free West Germany with his family, got kicked out when the wall came down and settled in Canada. And so, if there is a beginning, it would be right there. The lads name is Mojo PiN, a recent graduate of Ottawa's Carleton University who had too much going on inside his head to keep it all buried down inside. Growing up poor, PiN was able to see all walks of life, all manner of people struggling for the same thing. "It really didn't seem fair. There was all these people, from all different backgrounds, cultures, religions. They were, for the most part, hard working people with families, ambitions and dreams. But they could never get anywhere because they had to work shit jobs for people who didn't give a fuck about them just to buy bread for the day for the family. It wasn't fair at all, but that's when I learned that life never makes the claim of fairness, nor does it try to. You make of yourself what you make of yourself, there's no other way about it. If you get kicked down, beaten and torn, if you're still alive, you get up and struggle on. One short day at a time." It is of no surprise that having grown up in such conditions makes one want to escape, makes them demand something to look forward to. For PiN, this came in the form of music from the Madchester and Shoegaze eras, as well as some Brit Pop bands who he felt was the complete embodiment of what music should have been. "My brother is seven years older than I am and he had some buddies older still who listened to these absolutely brilliant bands. Coming off of the grunge scene which was a big influence on me as a kid music became very direct and up front. The imagination and the feels other than angst were gone. People were making music to face reality, not to distort it, and it was a bit disconcerting. But then I found these incredibly imaginative bands through my brother, bands that didn't just rely on distortion and maybe a bit of chorus for effects. There were the Stone Roses, Primal Scream, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Suede and the Verve and they all blew me away. They made me realize that music can be used not only as a tool of social awareness, but also as a form of escapism, an element just as necessary as anything else." And with that discovery the quest to learn the guitar and begin to write lyrics commenced. In the beginning the songs were standard affairs reminiscent of any teenagers regular lifestyle, but after a couple years of honing his skill, PiN's awareness of the world around him began to take shape and much more important and imaginative songs were being written. "I took a trip out to Europe to visit some family. I travelled around a bit in Scandinavia, the UK and back to Poland. England blew my mind man. All the people, the cultures, the love of music and the underground lifestyle and all the activism. It was an awakening. It was also around this time that I started a pretty regular regimen of using hallucinogens. Somehow, they just helped me understand parts of myself and the world around me that were difficult to see before. They just put you into perspective and make you realize that the world does not in fact revolve around you. It doesn't revolve around anything. All you've really got is your will and determination to test your boundaries and push yourself to your absolute limit. When you do that, then you can start doing some real good in this world. It is words like that which peak most people's interests. And although of late PiN has been focusing a lot of his attention on managing other bands and building up a studio, a set of EPs are set for release by Christmas '07 and those who have been with him the longest are in eager anticipation. Does he hope to score a record deal with the releases and gain worldwide recognition? "The only reason I would want worldwide recognition is to stir the world out of a state of apathy. Sure there is a lot of activism going on right now; anti-war rallies, environmental movements and those are all brilliant. But I want people to realize that life doesn't work out on its own terms. There is so much that can be done each day and people don't stop to see it. We're living comfortable lives, especially in the Western world and that has made us soft. Together people can make big changes, people can impact the world for good. So that's what I want to carry across. I want people to sit up, realize they make their own destinies and that no matter what the situation's like, there's always hope." A bold task, one that can only be accomplished if the songs are powerful enough to move. Will they be? I guess we'll have to wait for the EPs to find out. Preslav Literary School - “Autumn Bricolage” (Clinical Archives)
from Phlow-Magazine - Free MP3 Music Culture July 18, 2008
Soundscapist Compositions | Clinical Archives is the biggest Dark Ambient Netlabel - and honestly, I never got into their catalog by heart. But their 150. release finally got me. Preslav Literary School and is the alter ego of Adam Thomas, UK-born Berlin resident, head honcho of Glosses Fur Die Masses records and serious researcher of experimental Ambient. Autumn Bricolage is the MP3 re-release of Adam Thomas first album as PLS, published on CDr back in late 2006. Thomas labels his way of compositing Tape Music which means that he s using old tape decks, dictaphones, radiobroadcast rather than digitally piling tracks. Enhanced with various found sounds and field-recordings, Collage Ambient is the new genre I d like to coin (ah, by the way, that s Musique Concrète, no?). Half way music, halfway aurual investigation, Autumn Bricollage is subtitled Soundscapist Compositions Set In English Parkland . For experimental electronic music, the way things are recorded and the specific hardware used are of utmost importance. The approach of PLS results in rich textures and a specific sound that makes his tracks unique and memorable. Analogue hissing blends with lo-fi field-recordings, minimal melodies are introduced, synth textures correspond with the tonal shift in the found sound of an air con hum (or whatever). The whole album mixes seamlessly so please make sure to listen to the whole thing rather than just the track I picked! Welcome to the Circus(Secret Frequency Crew rmx)-Crunc Tesla
from YouTube :: Tag // carolina July 10, 2008
http://www.crunctesla.com Released in the late summer of 2007, Os Crunc Tesla Fearless VampireKiller Arcestra's "Welcome to the Circus Remixes Ep" is now totally free as well as available on Itunes if you wish to donate money to these Freedom Fighters. http://www.myspace.com/secretfrequencycrew http://www.myspace.com/luvtechnologies Here goes some hype fiction for the heads out thurrrr! Miss Teen usa aka Miss South Carolina could even understand that the Britney Spears is a Stargate alien from the planet Mars or maybe Venus. (I'm not sure) Lil Wayne and Rhianna also concur that these fellas blur the line of reality through art fatality. Mortal Kombat on you Wombats!!! Finish him for breakfast, lunch and dinner to see who the winner is on who wants to me a millionare or even chamillionare. I found a billion google type chocolate candies worn by a sexy gal named Mandy. She was totally crazy and loved to listen to Dipset and even Snoop Dogg in the rain ! Here's my most favorite tale: One day I saw a cute fat kitten run amok. His name was John and he had a lil sister named Mary Ann and an even smaller sister named Suzy the Leperchaun. They went to the store to buy a crack rock for Paris Hilton and her boyfriend Oj Simpson. then the zombie of Johnny Cochran stepped on Suzy's turtle and went to court with her parents. Meanwhile, the boy cat from around the corner who went to the same school where the olsen twins escaped, found some hardcore booty shake records from the 90's. He listened to the classic songs yet new they were disrespectful to women. Ergo the Freak in captivity is none other than the new character Tommy with whom all adore. Tom is a wolf and he likes to eat cats for Breakfast!!! He plays on his playstation and sony psp all day long while watching snowboard videos. Meanwhile the super hot Cat was riding his skateboard while playing Kanye west on his Ipod and then BOOM!!!The Battle Begins!!! the Wolf Jumped in front of him and said give me your rubik's cube and your Jessica Alba lunchbox or I'll call the police and tell them about the alternative avant garde lifestyle that you've been living. WHAT ?! said the cat ( lol ) He looked into his pocket for the proper code to release his dragonball z monster that was hidden in his little kitten pocket. KABOOOM!! A giant 100 foot tall two headed Homer and Bart Simpson behemoth arose from inside his red ball of power. The simpsons were a threat that the wolf never imagined would serve to challenge him in an animal fight. So he called up Daft Punk on his cell phone and told them to bring a metal stripper to destroy these cartoon machines before his eyes as well as vote for Obama or Hillary Clinton! So then, Outta the Blue....a robot parody of a funny novel I once read called the Davinci code came out of nowhere to protect the wolf. Then Marge And Maggie simpson fell from the sky like angels to lay their wrath upon the strong dog. Even Lisa appeared with an Oprah medallion on her side that was glaring with the aura of a Scientology gem that would make Harry Potter jealous. The silly wolf made a stupid mistake. He slipped on a banana and fell on his ass so hard that he could no longer walk! The cat side are you alright? are you Hurt?! or in pain?...and the wolf replied " You foolish pussy cat! Daft Punk and Kanye are coming to get you ! ...the cat said " dont make me pull 50 cent out of my pokemon ball too! I'm warning you!" Then a blond fairy appeared and told them all to stop or she would turn them into frogs!!! ( rofl ) Then the magic fairy said "do you want me to give you a sex change operation?! or do y'all want me to delete your myspace pages!!!??" Both animals replied " NO " dont do that Please dont do that! We just want to be Platinum rap stars like on that tmz channel. Can you surgically bond us to Angelina Jolie possibly? the Fairy replied " I want an apology for Michael Jackson. Then Oj appeared with a baseball bat and a basketball jersey screaming " I want a Hershey!" The cat said I'm so thirsty for some milk ..cookies would complement that nice. or maybe I just stick with eating mice. So they all went back to Oj's house to watch Full House versus the Family Guy's spouse! and then the whole city got destroyed by a nuclear bomb developed by terrorists funded by your Mom! Sike!! The Green Kingdom - “Miniature Forest Remix” (IOD Netlabel)
from Phlow-Magazine - Free MP3 Music Culture July 08, 2008
A Candle For IOD Netlabel! | To celebrate its first birthday, Paris top-notch Ambient Netlabel IOD releases an exclusive compilation. Miniature Forest Remix is a chosen collection of seven, well, remixes from the corresponding The Green Kingdom song released by IOD mother ship SEM. Everybody with just the slightest interest in experimental Ambient: go download! Usually, I avoid talking about the same Netlabels over and over again. But this release is too important to keep it in the closet just because I wrote about Brometer and IOD two weeks ago. The Green Kingdom, Detroit-based musician and graphic designer gave out the song Miniature Forest from his self titled CD debut for a bunch of house-keeping IOD artists to let them redraft his delicate Ambient textures. Exile-Irishman Darren McClure takes the original with him on a trip underwater. Not a trip to abysmal pits but a smooth skin-dive through colorful coastal waters. SEM-mastermind Alexandre Navarro treats the song with his cine scope delay mainly. Navarro s edit is pretty close to his own sound of semi-experimental, melancholy guitar Ambient and brings forth a sniveling feel of prairie vastness. Letna (SEM) and Mexican Manrico Montero (of Mandorla-fame) rework the track from a similar minimalistic point of view, the former with a good amount of Pop, the later with a rather dark approach. Both at huge success. My favorite remix comes from Jason Corder a.k.a. offthesky, a guy you probably have heard of. His Miniature Forest is the most song-like rework and so full of fresh textures, strange sounds and beautiful melodies that it s a pleasure to zoom in and listen closely. Did I mention the best place for Ambient music is the Netaudio scene? Go download the proove!
