In the last year in Mauritania's capital, Nouakchott, the number of reported sexual assaults has tripled. But rape convictions in the north-west African country remain rare. Barack Obama, the US Democratic presidential candidate is heading for Iraq. He is due to meet General David Petraeus to discuss possible reductions in troop numbers. In central America, the Honduran government and private developers have launched a $100 million project to build the tourism industry. They plan to build hotels, luxury villas and a golf course on the pristine white beaches of Tela Bay. Iraqi securiy forces have taken over another province from US control. Qadisiyah is the 10th region to be transferred and the Iraqi government says it expects to take control of the remaining eight provinces by December.
