Peu de temps après la chute du mur en 1989, des artistes du monde entier sont venus s'exprimer en peinture sur l'East Side Gallery. Longue de 1,3 kilomètres, cette partie du mur est l'une des rares a avoir survécu à la réunification. Véritable galerie à ciel ouvert, cet endroit fait partie des lieux les plus visités de Berlin. À l'occasion des commémorations de la chute du mur, les artistes qui avaient peint sur l'East Side Gallery en 1989 ont été invité à refaire la même peinture, 20 ans après.
