Tonight was the 8th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Dinner at Cipriani's Ballroom. * Elton and Husband David Furnish arrived to a frenzy of camera lights. Elton stopped to take pics and gave some interviews. * Gina Gershon currently appearing in a Broadway Show looked great. * Susan Lucci and husband, Helmut posed and talked with the press. * Anderson Cooper walked through the press area quickly. The CNN star seemed to come unescorted. * Sharon Stone in Black Gown and Black Fedora must have been having a great day. Smiling, laughing, stopping to pose and talk to the press, Sharon worked the carpet like an A-List Superstar. * NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg posed and spent some time on the carpet with Sharon stone. * I caught former tennis great, Billie Jean King just before she got away. * The greatest living singer, Tony Bennett made a late arrival with his wife. Universal access is the promise of HIV prevention, treatment and care for all.

For children living in poverty in the developing world, life is already fragile. Their situation is precarious, and includes the risk of poor health, malnutrition and a lack of education. Their first and last refuge of these children is family. But some events can push even families to the brink. At times like these, HIV and AIDS can make children in impoverished families even more vulnerable. But an approach to aid known as child-sensitive social protection creates a buffer against shocks such as chronic disease and can lift children out of poverty. This short video illustrates the ways social protection safeguards children and their families at every level from communities to entire countries and beyond. The global economic crisis has raised tough choices about spending for countries around the world. At times like these, its often women and children who fare the worst. The crisis comes at a time when theres been great progress in the fight against AIDS. More women are receiving treatment to prevent HIV transmission to their babies, and new infections among children are down. For the first time, the goal of ending paediatric HIV seems possible. But to stay on track toward an AIDS-free generation, its essential to protect funding for the fight against the epidemic.
