President Isaias Conducts Tour Of Inspection In Anseba Region Shabait: Keren, 1 December 2009 President Isaias Afwerki today conducted an inspection tour of development and agriculture infrastructure projects in Anseba region, as well as those envisaged for implementation next year. In the course of the visit to Hagaz sub-zone, the President inspected the draft plan for the construction of a water division scheme in Ashera administrative area, in addition to two micro-dams and water diversion schemes in Adi-Omar administrative area. He observed the over 3,000 hectare in the plains of Gula-Shital which is expected to be put under cultivation through the planned micro-dams and water diversion schemes, during which he received briefings on the project. Later on, in a meeting with representatives of the residents of Keren, the regional capital, President Isaias indicated that the 2010 budget for the implementation of major development undertakings in Anseba region has been raised that will provide added impetus to construction endeavors. Stating that no Eritrean national would die of hunger in 2010, the President explained that the Government is exerting vigorous efforts to tackle food shortages in some areas as a result of inadequate rainfall. He further pointed out that due attention would be given on priority basis to the task of renovating roads in the region, and called on the population to take active participation in the endeavor. The representatives of the people expressed their appreciation to the President for holding a meeting with them, and put forth views and recommendations towards resolving the water shortage problem in Keren, the stepping up of the construction of a referral hospital for the region, the renovation of the Habero-Keren, Halhal-Asmat roads, among others, as well as the early launching of agricultural development programs in the already identified sites. During the visit to Ashera and Keren, President Isaias was accorded warm welcome by the residents of the respective urban centers. Prior to his tour of inspection in Anseba region, the President conducted similar visit in Gash-Barka, during which he visited the Aligir Dam currently under construction and work progress so far made. He also expressed words of encouragement to all those involved in the undertaking, besides holding talks with village elders. Moreover, President Isaias visited the bricks and lime factories in Barentu town, during he exchanged views with experts and forwarded ideas on ways of speeding up the projects underway.

Tekle (Hiwket) Adhanom is one of the greatest guitar player in Eritrea and Ethiopia. Some of his best work can be found in the Ethiopique series. Hiwket inspired so many guitar players. Tekle used to live in Milan, but he moved to Germany years ago.

Pushkin Monument inaugurated Asmara, 28 November 2009 - The newly erected Pushkin Monument in Asmara was inaugurated today. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in which Government and PFDJ officials, members of the Russian Parliament and invited guests took part, the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Tewolde Kelati, pointed out that the erection of the full-size Monument in Eritrean in honor of the renowned Russian poet Alexander Pushkin is the first of its kind in Africa. The monument and the subsequent opening of the Pushkin Cultural Center would make due contribution to the development of culture, arts and education at the national and region level, he added. Mr. Tewolde further stated that the erection of the Pushkin Monument would serve as a link between two cultures, though geographically wide apart. He further noted that Eritrea believes in the development of closer cultural exchange on the basis of equality on the part of the two sides. The Administrator went on to express appreciation to all the parties, inducing the Eritrean-Russian Cooperation Association that made the necessary contribution to the successful accomplishment of the erection of the Pushkin Monument. Also speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Elena Drapeko, Member of the Russian Parliament, explained that Pushkin s great artistic works are treasured worldwide, and said that the renowned poet was proud of his African origin. She further expressed hope that the erection of the Monument would play due role in enhancing Eritrean-Russian relations. A number of artistic presentations were staged during the inauguration ceremony, according to reports.
