(posted on StinkFight.com Monday, June 9th, 2008) Is the president being impeached? (I hope so.) I have been watching a lot of C-SPAN lately. It’s basically the only thing worth watching, now that all TV pretty much sucks. Not a lot of people watch C-SPAN. So I’m one of the small percentage of Americans who know, at this moment, that Representative Dennis Kucinich is on the Congressional floor presenting his resolution calling for Bush’s impeachment. It’s a list of 35 charges, (list here) mostly Constitutional violations and Geneva Convention violations, and he’s been reading it for about an hour, and he’s about halfway through it. A member of the House of Representatives presenting a resolution detailing charges is one of the first steps in impeachment proceedings. The charges range from election fraud, including disenfranchisement, to illegal wiretapping to illegal torture, to lying about our reasons for going to war, to handing out padded military contracts to his buddies. And a lot more. I can barely keep up. And I’m as giddy as a kid in a candy store about this. So is Debra Jean. She’s glued to the screen. We both love the Constitution. A lot. It’s history in the making, and it’s not even on CNN.com or Yahoo News yet. I think it’s an emergency meeting, because it’s 10:30 PM in DC right now. I remember seeing Nixon on TV when I was a kid, but he was never actually impeached. (He quit before that could happen, and Ford pardoned Nixon as soon as he took office.) And Nixon was basically just going to be charged with, as I recall, one thing (conspiring to pay people to bug a hotel room). The charges being read against Bush are many, and many are far more serious. Kucinich is quoting the US Constitution a lot. I wish Kucinich had made it to run for president. He’s smart, and has other things going for him. I have a prediction: tonight on the Colbert show, Colbert will report this out of character, as he really is, not as his “alter ego” who would be outraged by this. He’ll just state it, and let people cheer. Here’s a quick 20-minute podcast I recorded, and uploaded while the proceedings were still being read live. It’s about 17 minutes of the charges being read, and about three minutes of us commenting on it. We’re pretty much in shock. And pretty happy. Is the government compiling a secret list of citizens to detain under martial law?In the spring of 2007, a retired senior official in the U.S. Justice Department sat before Congress and told a story so odd and ominous, it could have sprung from the pages of a pulp political thriller. It was about a principled bureaucrat struggling to protect his country from a highly classified program with sinister implications. Rife with high drama, it included a car chase through the streets of Washington, D.C., and a tense meeting at the White House, where the president s henchmen made the bureaucrat so nervous that he demanded a neutral witness be present. The bureaucrat was James Comey, John Ashcroft s second-in-command at the Department of Justice during Bush s first term. Comey had been a loyal political foot soldier of the Republican Party for many years. Yet in his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, he described how he had grown increasingly uneasy reviewing the Bush administration s various domestic surveillance and spying programs. Much of his testimony centered on an operation so clandestine he wasn t allowed to name it or even describe what it did. He did say, however, that he and Ashcroft had discussed the program in March 2004, trying to decide whether it was legal under federal statutes. Shortly before the certification deadline, Ashcroft fell ill with pancreatitis, making Comey acting attorney general, and Comey opted not to certify the program. When he communicated his decision to the White House, Bush s men told him, in so many words, to take his concerns and stuff them in an undisclosed location. The Continuity of Governance program encompasses national emergency plans that would trigger the takeover of the country by extra-constitutional forces. OLODUM-02: Olodum is an internationally acclaimed Afro-Brazilian cultural group from Bahia, Brazil. Olodum (pronounced oh-lo-doon) was founded in 1979 as a bloco afro (African Bloc), a Bahian Carnival association highlighting African heritage and black pride through music, dance theater, and art. From their home city of Salvador da Bahia in Northeast Brazil, Olodum has dedicated itself to cultural activism in the struggle against racial discrimination and socioeconomic inequality. On stage Olodum takes its name from the Yoruba deity Olodumaré. In the mid 1980s, the head drummer in the group (Mestre Neguinho do Samba) experimented with Afro-Caribbean rhythms and mixed them with the Brazilian samba. He divided the large surdo bass drums into four interlocking parts and layered the high-pitched repique drums in additive rhythms on top. The result was a new style of music dubbed samba reggae that quickly dominated Bahian Carnival. During Carnival season the group now parades with some two hundred drummers, singers, and thousands of costumed members. But the group's activities go well beyond Carnival and music. Throughout the year they sponsor seminars, speeches, and conferences on social and political issues and publish a monthly news journal, Bantu Nagô. They operate a factory where they make drums, costumes and other items which they sell to the public. Olodum also runs an inner-city school for Salvador's underprivileged children in which they teach a full array of academic and arts courses in order to build self-esteem and encourage economic ascension among Salvador's younger generation. http://www.narin.com/olodum/ I would also add that Olodum is considered to be one of the best percussion groups in the world. They have even been invited to play at the Montreal Jazz Festival, and with the New York City Philharmonic Orchestra. Also, the drums they use are custom built for them. Regrettably I had introduced him to conspiracy theories a few years ago and he was going off on some new security camera that had been put up down the street from him. Soon enough the conversation predictably turned to the popular Austin-based conspiracy radio host Alex Jones. “He’s the enemy.” I said. “He states that he is fighting for freedom, but all he does is terrorize everyone with frightening tales of a super-powerful Satanic New World Order or whatever he calls it. If our thoughts create our reality what kind of reality is he creating? One of fear, terror and powerlessness. Bush and Alex are two sides of the same coin. Both use fear mongering to increase their power and wealth. Bush’s elite class gets wealthier off Bush’s phony war on terror and Alex gets richer pushing his DVDs and Berkey water filters. Summary of FTR#603—(Note: The massive volume of ‘For The Record’ programs about 9/11 and related topics is summarized and analyzed in the periodically-updated description for FTR#391. FTR#’s 454, 455, 456 are compilations of much of the key documentation culled from Mr. Emory’s investigation into 9/11. Along with FTR#391, they should give listeners/readers a substantive grasp of this momentous event. It is recommended that listeners use this description and e-mail it to others.) Illustrating investigative and historical methodology, this program excerpts several of Mr. Emory’s broadcasts recorded from 2001 to 2004. The excerpts document the suppression of the 9/11 money trail. Beginning with FTR#310, the program highlights the consequences of the appointment of Robert Mueller as FBI director. In that program, Mr. Emory suggested that Mueller’s appointment may have been realized in order to cover up the BCCI milieu. (For more about BCCI, see—among other programs—FTR#589.) If properly investigated, the BCCI case would have revealed the elder George Bush’s involvement with drug and weapons trafficking and the younger George Bush’s business connections to the family of Osama bin Laden. In the Justice Department of the elder Bush, Mueller proved less than vigorous in pursuing the investigation. In the spring of 2002, Mr. Emory recorded FTR#356, which noted the profound links between the Bush administration, the GOP hierarchy and the individuals and institutions busted in the 3/20/2002 Operation Green Quest raids on suspected terrorist funding sources. Bush associate Talat Othman interceded with then Treasury Secretary O’Neill on behalf of the targets of the raid. [Othman himself is a protégé of the BCCI milieu.] Much of this broadcast consists of excerpts from subsequent For The Record broadcasts chronicling the FBI and Justice Department obstruction of Operation Green Quest, just as Mr. Emory foreshadowed in FTR#310. Note: this material is presented to illustrate investigative methodology, as well as critical information linking the 9/11 money trail to associates of the Bush administration. It is not presented as an exercise in conceit or puffery. Much of Mr. Emory’s discussion of 9/11 and related matters has focused on the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamic fascist organization that supported the Axis in World War II. The parent organization of Al Qaeda and Hamas, the Brotherhood’s corporatist economic philosophy has won approval in a growing number of Western business circles. News of the Brotherhood is prominent in this broadcast as well. After presenting Brotherhood associate Achmed Huber’s analysis of September 11, the program sets forth the House of Representatives’ vote to discontinue aid to Saudi Arabia because of its support of terrorism. [The CIA resettled much of the Muslim Brotherhood in Saudi Arabia after Egyptian president Nasser expelled the organization from the land of the Nile.] The Bush administration is considering a diplomatic rapprochement with the Brotherhood, viewed by some administration personnel as a viable diplomatic ally in the Muslim world. The charter of Hamas, a Brotherhood offshoot, is more revealing of the organization’s true character, drawing heavily on Nazi and fascist ideological themes. After reviewing some of [Saudi] Prince Bandar’s intrigue on behalf of Western intelligence, the aerospace industry and the Saudi royal family, the program presents still more discussion about the relationship between Islamism, the narcotics trade, organized crime and elements of the intelligence community.
