Barack Obama might have a Nobel Peace Prize, but he's still yet to fix the mess that George W. Bush started in Iraq. Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen visited Amman, Jordan to talk with Iraqis who were displaced by the American invasion, and brought their words home to craft their new play, Aftermath, now being performed at the New York Theatre Workshop. Jessica Blank visited the GRITtv studio to talk about her play, which runs until October 18 in New York City, and her previous work with Exonerated, another work of documentary theater. Since they had seen little creative work from the point of view of civilians affected by war, they chose to speak to the refugees about their lives. The play is Blank and Jensen's response, "artistically and creatively to the Bush years."
